The #1 reason evolution is impossible

There is one fatal flaw in the evolutionary worldview: the second law of thermodynamics. If everything over time gets worse, and not better, evolution is completely false. Ray Comfort expounds this and then talks with college students who believe in evolution and shares the gospel with them.

Car Carrier Felicity Ace Abandoned After Catching Fire in Atlantic Ocean

A car carrier is abandoned and on fire in the North Atlantic near the Azores.

All 22 crew members of the M/V Felicity Ace abandoned ship safely and were picked up by a tanker after the car carrier caught fire approximately 90 nautical miles southwest from the island of Faial in the Azores on Wednesday morning.

The Portuguese Navy has been responding with the rescue being coordinated by the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Delgada).

The fire in the cargo hold was still active as of Thursday.

Felicity Ace’s crew members have since been transferred from the tanker Resilient Warrior to the Horta airport by a Portuguese Air Force EH-101 aircraft.

No injuries or pollution have been reported.

The owners of the Felicity Ace have arranged for a tow of the burning the ship. The Portuguese Navy ship NRP Setúbal has remained on scene to monitor the situation.

Felicity Ace departed from Emden, Germany on February 10 and was en route to Davisville, Rhode Island when the fire occurred in the ship’s cargo hold. The ship is reportedly carrying a cargo of Porsches and Volkswagens, as reported by the website The Drive.

The Felicity Ace is registered in Panama and was built in 2005. It is operated by Japanese shipping line Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL).

The Portuguese Air Force has now released video of the rescue:

The fire is reminiscent of the Sincerity Ace which caught fire in the Pacific Ocean approximately 1,800 nautical miles from Oahu on New Year’s Eve in 2018. Five crew members died in that accident and the ship was eventually towed back to Japan.

This latest incident appears likely to join the ever-growing list of infamous car carrier accidents which include Cougar Ace (stability), Baltic Ace (collision/sinking), Hoegh Osaka (stability), Hoegh Xiamen (fire), Golden Ray (stability), Modern Express (stability), Grande America (fire) and Sincerity Ace (fire). A recently published NTSB report on the Hoegh Xiamen fire, which took place at the United States’ Port of Jacksonville, said an improperly disconnected car battery in a used vehicle started the fire.

Agelbert COMMENT: Notice the number of stability related sinkings. 👀 The stability of a ship at sea is directly related to the sea state. While it is true that a ship that has unbalanced cargo or is too high in the water can have stability problems in a normal sea state, all ships can become unstable in a sufficiently high sea state. The predicted ocean wave activity due to Catastrophic Climate Change portends routine 7 (20 to 30 ft) to 🌊 9 (Over 46 ft) sea states, so expect more stability caused sinkings unless these ships are redesigned to handle routine 9 plus sea states.

The Winter Of Our Discontent:
 Hubris  Is Ascendent

We're constantly assured everything's on the mend but this trying-too-hard marketing has the opposite effect: it confirms everything's unraveling. We're told inflation is transitory (you mean like terminal cancer is "transitory"?), the economy is opening up and growing smartly.

None of this is remotely persuasive. OK, we get it: the pandemic shutdown crushed supply chains and demand, and then trillions of dollars, yen, yuan and euros of monetary and fiscal stimulus boosted pent-up demand which then snarled creaky supply chains. Inflation is transitory because the effects of this massive stimulus is temporary and the global supply snarls will all be unkinked shortly.

But this happy story only accounts for a thin wafer of global supply issues. Yes, a few items may be restored to low-cost production and shipping, but all this rah-rah ignores the primary dynamics: all the cheap, easy-to-get resources have been extracted and consumed, and labor costs, crushed for the past 45 years, have reversed: after being stripmined by capital for the past 45 years, labor is now demanding some modest restoration of decades of diminished purchasing power, not just in the U.S. but in China and other production nodes in global supply chains.

Capital's screams of agony are laughable, as the top tier of capital has added trillions in wealth at the expense of the bottom 99.5%. The wealth of the few has metastasized into hyper-wealth--$100 million yachts and villas barely scratch the surface of the billions gained by gaming financialization and the Federal Reserve's financial fentanyl.

Although nobody benefiting from the Fed's financial fentanyl seems to have noticed, hyper-wealth has extinguished democracy and destabilized the economy and society. With trillions gushing into the wealthiest families and corporate insiders, "democracy" has been reduced to an invitation-only auction of political favors.

If you didn't get your desired favors, then increase your bid. Big Pharma, the "defense" (heh) industry, Higher Education, Big Ag, Big Tech, et al. are all willing to pony up millions in bribes--oops, I mean "donations"-- to multi-millionaire politicos profiting from insider trading (cough, Pelosi, cough). Revolving doors ensure the right people get fat speaking fees, cushy do-nothing slots in philanthro-capitalist foundations, etc.

The decay caused by hyper-wealth is systemic: the moral decay of a thoroughly corrupted "leadership," a sham facade of "democracy" (vote for whomever you want, the ownership of power doesn't change), an economy dominated by profiteering cartels and quasi-monopolies, a class system in which privilege is hidden in plain sight, a society of haves who have broken the rungs of the social-mobility ladder, leaving the have-nots unaffordable housing, unaffordable higher education, unaffordable healthcare, unaffordable childcare, etc., all to be paid out of wages that have lost purchasing power for decades and continue to lose ground as "transitory" inflation is embedded in essentials and fripperies alike.

Meanwhile, back in the wintry real world, everyone facing a dime in higher costs is jacking up their price by a dollar. "Inflation" is a handy cover for jacking up prices just to see how much the panic-hoarding, desperate consumer will pay: hmm, a used truck costs more than a new truck cost two years ago? I'll take it! A mattress-in-a-box has doubled in price? I'll take it! A fast-food burger is now 50% more? Give me four, and charge it to my credit card.

Oh, but wait--everything is being fixed by speculative bubbles that enrich everyone who bought assets long ago. That's obviously a solution that benefits everyone, right? So the newly enriched can buy overvalued assets from other newly enriched, all funded by the Fed's financial fentanyl.

Yes, it's time to distribute victorious wreaths to the purveyors and profiteers of financial fentanyl. Hubris is ascendent just before the fall.

Now are our brows bound with victorious wreaths;
Our bruised arms hung up for monuments;
Our stern alarums changed to merry meetings,
Our dreadful marches to delightful measures.

Photons Received: Webb Sees Its First Star – 18 Times

James Webb Space ✨ Telescope (JWST) 150K subscribers

The James Webb Space Telescope is nearing completion of the first phase of the months-long process of aligning the observatory’s primary mirror using the Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) instrument.

The team's challenge was twofold: confirm that NIRCam was ready to collect light from celestial objects, and then identify starlight from the same star in each of the 18 primary mirror segments. The result is an image mosaic of 18 randomly organized dots of starlight, the product of Webb's unaligned mirror segments all reflecting light from the same star back at Webb's secondary mirror and into NIRCam's detectors.

What looks like a simple image of blurry starlight now becomes the foundation to align and focus the telescope in order for Webb to deliver unprecedented views of the universe this summer. Over the next month or so, the team will gradually adjust the mirror segments until the 18 images become a single star.

Catastrophic Climate Change / Lawns AREN'T Green!

Duckweed is already being used, eaten, fed to livestock. It's field tested.

I'm going to rant about lawns now. Law says lawns have to be mowed. It's not just a city thing. Drive out in the country, see homes sitting on 5 acres of mowed land.

Lawns Aren't Green

EatTheWeeds Editorial: Lawns Aren’t Green. A decade ago I recorded a 3.5 minute editorial that I wrote for National Public Radio Holland. It was for their Earthbeat series. They set it to music. I’ve been wanting to put it to photos for several years. It’s as relevant today as it was a decade ago. Lawns consume the majority of treated drinking water in the United States, are a major source of water pollution as home owners use more pesticides and fertilizer than farmers, and also cause millions of gallons of gasoline and oil to be spilled.

agelbert > Freeze Peach 🍑
Excellent video! I agree wholeheartedly. I have often ranted about lawns and the insane practice of using a lot of weed killer chemical toxins on them, adding insult to the carcinogenic pollution injury from small gas guzzler lawn mowers, leaf blowers, lawn tractors, weed whackers, etc., that ruin our health and keep lawns from being used to grow wild flowers, like sun flowers that clean the land of heavy metals and other toxins in preparation for using that land to grow veggies.

The whole love affair with lawns, as you undoubtedly know (I am writing this for those reading here that don't know this) came from the "killing fields" lawns all around the moat of castles centuries ago. Their function then was to have open ground where archers could pick off attacking armies when they approached the castle.

It is a prideful, arrogant practice that should be terminated. However, instead of urging people to plant wild flowers to help flower biodiversity that, in turn, gives beneficial insect pollinators like bees a helping hand and growing veggies on a part of the land, too many zoning nazis in the US require people, under ordinance pain of fines, to NOT grow food or plant wild flowers on the land where they have lawns.

The zoning stupidity "rules" where I live in Vermont: "Lawns are to be kept mowed and trimmed in summer and leaves raked off the lawns in the fall.".

This was one of my demands on the list of actions that need to be taken, like yesterday:
3. Small engines, like those used for lawn mowers, leaf blowers or weed whackers are to be outlawed. All ordinances requiring lawns are to be outlawed. All lawn, gardening or snow removal power equipment not running on E100 is to be electrically powered without any exceptions or grace period.

Record Rogue Wave Measured Off British Columbia

Researchers have measured what they believe to be the most extreme rogue wave ever recorded at 17.6 meters – the equivalent of a four-story building.

The wave was recorded in the Pacific Ocean west of Ucluelet, British Columbia in November 2020 by Victoria, B.C.-based MarineLabs Data Systems (MarineLabs). The wave is also the subject of a scientific report by Dr. Johannes Gemmrich and Leah Cicon, both of the University of Victoria, published last week in Scientific Reports.

Although rogue waves have been measured to be taller, the wave recorded by MarineLabs in Ucluelet was proportionally larger. That is, the 17.6-meter wave occurred during significant wave heights of only 6 meters, making it nearly three times the size of the waves around it.

Rogue waves are defined as waves with a height more than double that of other waves occurring around them. Although rogue waves have been the subject of maritime lore for centuries, the first ever measured occurred off the coast of Norway in 1995. Known as the ‘Draupner wave’, it measured 25.6 meters in a sea state with wave heights of approximately 12 meters.

“Proportionally, the Ucluelet wave is likely the most extreme rogue wave ever recorded,” says Gemmrich, who studies large wave events along BC’s coastlines as part of his work as a research physicist at the University of Victoria. “Only a few rogue waves in high sea states have been observed directly, and nothing of this magnitude. The probability of such an event occurring is once in 1,300 years.”

The record-setting Ucluelet wave was recorded by one of MarineLabs’ sensor buoys deployed at Amphitrite Bank, approximately four miles offshore of Ucluelet. The buoy is part of a network of marine sensors that comprise MarineLabs’ CoastAware™ platform.

“The unpredictability of rogue waves, and the sheer power of these ‘walls of water’ can make them incredibly dangerous to marine operations and the public,” says MarineLabs CEO, Dr. Scott Beatty. “The potential of predicting rogue waves remains an open question, but our data is helping to better understand when, where and how rogue waves form, and the risks that they pose.”

Agelbert NOTE: Because of Catastrophic Climate Change from the continued burning of hydrocarbon based fuels, the day is soon coming when these 🌊 giant waves will no longer be given the adjective, "rogue".

Geopolitics / WHY do we need a 15% (📢 MINIMUM) Corporate Tax Rate?

Together, let’s build an economy that puts people ahead of corporate profits.

The CPMT would apply a 15% minimum tax to the profits that about 200 corporations report to investors, which is different from what they report to the IRS. Only corporations with annual net income over $1 billion would be subject to the tax.

The CPMT, which has already passed the House and is awaiting action in the U.S. Senate, will raise about $320 billion over 10 years―money that can be used to lower healthcare costs, make childcare more affordable, invest in education, housing and more.[3]

Donate today to bring our latest infographic to millions of people and build support for a Corporate Profits Minimum Tax to ensure corporations with annual net income over $1 billion are paying their fair share!

Together, we’re fighting for an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
