Description: Waves crashing over a 1:8 scale model of the VolturnUS floating wind turbine during a storm on Nov. 1, 2013, would be the equivalent of a 70-foot high surge, if the project was full size, University of Maine researchers have calculated. Their experience with the scale model off Castine has given confidence to predictions that full-scale floating wind turbines could survive a 100-year storm in the Gulf of Maine.
