Falklands: A New Billion Oil Barrel Basin Say Rockhopper

Published at 05:02PM - 17/05/16

Rockhopper Exploration’s oil reserves in North Falkland have doubled to more than 300 million barrels in what experts believe to be a billion barrel basin.

The latest independent audit of the basin revealed that both the Sea Lion and Isobel Elaine oil fields hold half a billion barrels of recoverable oil reserves each.

“In our view, this new audit confirms the potential of the North Falklands to be a billion barrel basin”, the company Chief Executive Officer Simon Moody said.

Rockhopper Doubles Oil Reserve Estimates In Falklands

Within the basin, the company owns more than 50% of two licence areas estimated to hold a total of 747 million barrels of oil and gas reserves.

The independent audit was prepared by ERCE and follows a successful drilling programme which made new discoveries and concluded in February.

The resources are expected to be developed in two phases, with the first phase focusing on the resources in the northeast of the Sea Lion area. Phase 1 is expected to rely upon the operator, Premier Oil, and its plans to bring in an additional partner to share costs.

According to Premier, a 18-month FEED phase began in January, but the final investment decision for Sea Lion remains dependent upon “the evolution of project economics” and the outlook on oil prices.

A Billion Oil Barrel Basin

“The Sea Lion Complex itself holds over half a billion barrels with almost 270 million barrels of low risk near field upside, which we believe could be assessed with as few as 3 or 4 more optimally targeted wells”, Moody added.

“In addition, the Isobel Elaine discovery has the potential to be a third regional development potentially containing over 500 million barrels”, he stated further.

According to the executive, “a billion barrels of recoverable oil is within reach within the basin thanks to the outstanding track record of our sub surface team”.

DOOM WEEK ON PLANET EARTH
It REALLY WAS a good ride, not for you and me, but for TPTB. So expect them to do WHATEVER to prolong their RIDE, against all scientific evidence that EXPLOITATION WITHOUT REFLECTION OF FELLOW EARTHLINGS OF ALL SPECIES (not just humans) AND THE BIOSPHERE FOR PROFIT OVER PLANET is deleterious (i.e. SUICIDAL/abysmally STUPID) to the Homo SAP species.

They are Parking the Trains.
And the Ships and Planes and Trucks

SNIPPET:

Quote
It’s a picture that’s worth a thousand choruses of “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” Here in the Seventh Straight Successful Year of the Recovery from the Great Recession, tucked into a corner of the Arizona Desert, is a line of parked Union Pacific locomotives. It was discovered on Google Earth, so it is, as they say, visible from space. There are 292 of them, baking in the sun like so many dinosaur skeletons, in a line stretching almost five miles. They, and the people who used to run them, are now “excess capacity” for one of the country’s largest freight haulers. In this, the Seventh Straight Successful Year of the Great Recovery.

No one should be surprised. But even when you know that trade — the buying and selling of stuff — has been slowing down all over the world for years, it is startling to see such stark, graphic evidence that we are all in deep trouble.

•Rail freight tonnage in the U.S. is down — by 11% in April compared with April 2015. Volumes of oil, coal, and shipping containers are off even more sharply. Somewhere there are graveyards for excess railroad cars that dwarf the locomotive park.

•The world’s great fleets of oil tankers, container ships and dry-cargo vessels, along with the world’s largest ports, are contracting calamitously as the volumes of cargo shrink implacably.

•China, the “economic miracle” of the past decade, with its ten-percent-per-year growth and bottomless appetite for oil, coal, and raw materials, is staggering to a hard landing. China now has a bottomless appetite for debt, which can only delay the landing, not soften it.

•Corporate profits reported so far for the first quarter of 2016 (by the S&P 500) are down 8%, the third quarter of declining profits and the worst drop since 2009.

•Corporate defaults — failure to pay loans when due — are running at levels last seen in 2009 (nearly 50 companies so far this year.

Only two people I know of seem to understand the root of this problem: Henry Ford and Howard Davidowitz. Ford, according to persistent legend, doubled his workers’ wages because he realized that if they weren’t making enough money to afford to buy one of his cars he would go out of business. (Never mind whether the story is true or not, it contains an important truth.) Davidowitz, a world class consultant to retail merchants, said upon analysis he found that the problem was that the consumers on whom everyone is relying to save the economy don’t have — and I’m quoting here — “any f u c k i n g money.

Well, that is because the real liberals were demonized and ostracized and marginalized and imprisoned through the clever pig man device of labeling them "anarchists" (and other groundless derogatory terms).

The only difference today is that the force of the coming climate catastrophe will overcome the TPTB mens rea propaganda of the ubiquitous, mealy mouthed, incrementalist "progress", business as usual,  status quo worshipping quislings.

For those biosphere math challenged folks that don't see a connection between dirty politics and dirty energy, there is nothing that can be done for them. Their heads are inserted at such a distance up their collective descending colons that their consequent myopic delusions make them incorrigible and doomed to perish in a paroxysm of dirty energy happy talk bean counting. Reality based thinking is just not their thing.

THE FACTS:

Centralized DIRTY energy equals centralized (i.e. fascist) DIRTY political power. Anybody that does not get that did not study the history of the 20th century.

YOU are dependent TOTALLY on the gooberment for the incredibly lengthy and fragile logistics chain of energy from the exploitation to that gas station. TPTB can shut it off if you don't tow the line ANY TIME they want to.

They can ALSO control the price.

They can ALSO label dirty centralized energy a "national security" resource requiring "subsidies".

THAT is why TPTB have done absolutely everything in their considerable power to keep the energy centralized.

Decentralized CLEAN Energy equals distributed (i.e. DEMOCRATIC) political power.

THAT is why TPTB prefer DIRTY energy to Renewable Energy.

A degraded democracy is the DIRECT result of centralized energy  (it's kind of hard to set up a nuclear power plant, a coal mine or an oil refinery next to an oil well in your back yard).

It ain't poisonal, it's just bidness as usual.

When no alternative is available due to catastrophic climate change, the gooberments will be FORCED to move TOTALLY away from centralized infrastructure for energy. THAT will cause the POLITICAL power, now centralized to our detriment, to be decentralized. TPTB won't like it one bit. But they will be obligated to do it as a survival mechanism.

Go Greenland BIG MELT!

Well, that is because the real liberals were demonized and ostracized and marginalized and imprisoned through the clever pig man device of labeling them "anarchists" (and other groundless derogatory terms).

We see that same technique alive and well today in the machinations of David Brock and other Hillbots' attacks on Sanders and supporters. But then how did we get here?

I suggest we look first at the Democratic Leadership Council and the sudden lurch to the right, exemplified by class-traitor Bill Clinton who extolled the viability of Third Way politicians and as a DLC success story. Secure in power, the DLC sold off its former values and constituencies for parts, or more to the point, bundled campaign contributions.
Rahm Emanuel was a noted bagman for the DLC. Democrats who adhere to the DLC's philosophy often call themselves "New Democrats." And they have never seen a campaign contribution they didn't like.

And, as a coup de grace, you should know that the historical records of the DLC have been purchased by the Clinton Foundation.

Remember Clinton's strategy of "triangulation?" The net result has been concession after concession to the opposition and promotion of a neoliberal economic agenda favorable to corporations and banksters, including those seeking to privatize public services, while alienating traditionally-allied voters and working-class people. And utter, complete sellout of ordinary citizens.

Yeah, Rahmbo, I got yer "Third Way" right here.

Yep. Triangulation was probably code speech for isolation and strangulation of the CFS reasonable and caring voice of we-the-people on behalf of the wishes of the oligarchic **** driving this country and our species into an evolutionary dead end.

Maybe they knew what they were doing by picking the Bald Eagle as the symbol of the USA...

The Tardigrades will inherit the world from oligarchic human insane greed and stupidity.

NEWS from the "rearranging deck chairs on the titanic" category:

Cruise Ship Business is Booming! In other pertinent  ;D news, Cruise ship slams pier in Alaska.  :P

Booming Cruise Industry  :o Reports Better-Than-Expected Passenger Numbers in 2015
June 3, 2016 by gCaptain

The Cruise Lines International Association has bumped up its passenger predictions for 2016 after numbers showed that the industry surpassed its 2015 passenger projections.

According to CLIA, the industry reported a total of 23.2 million passengers on ocean cruises globally in 2015, up from a projection of 23 million, and a 4-percent increase over 2014. As a result of steady year-over-year increases, CLIA has modified 2016 expectations and is now predicting 24.2 million travelers will set sail on ocean cruises around the world.

A statement from CLIA says the numbers show that the industry is stronger than ever, coming during a period where pretty much every other maritime sector is struggling.

“The success in 2015 demonstrates the cruise industry’s continued strength in the overall travel sector,” said Cindy D’Aoust, president and CEO, CLIA. “This is a direct result of the amazing work and commitment of our community of Cruise Lines, Executive Partners and Travel Agencies and Agents. Plus, with the highest satisfaction rates among all leisure travel segments, it reflects that a cruise vacation is the vacation of choice for travelers around the world.”

CLIA says that Much of the industry’s growth can be attributed to emerging regions of the world, particularly in Asia and Australia.

In 2015, Asia experienced the most growth year over year in ocean cruise passengers with another impressive 24% increase from 2014 to 2015, with a total of more than 2 million ocean cruise passengers in 2015. While Asia continues to see record growth in the cruise industry, Australia is not far behind. The region, which includes Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, experienced an incredible 14% increase in ocean cruise passengers from 2014 to 2015. Last year, a total of more than 1.1 million ocean cruise travelers originated in Australia.

“When looking at the travel industry, cruise travel has astonishing long-term growth potential since it represents only two percent of the total leisure travel market, has the highest satisfaction rates among global travelers and is growing in popularity,” CLIA said in a statement. “In fact, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, in the decade between 2004 and 2014, global cruise vacations have grown faster in popularity than land-based vacations by a 20-percent margin.”

Of course this growth has not gone unnoticed by cruise lines, with new ship orders from just about every major cruise company such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean. In 2016, a total of 27 new ocean, river, and specialty cruise ships are scheduled for delivery, according to CLIA figures.

Agelbert NOTE: In the book Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, a drug called "Soma" is hugely popular. The Cruise Ship Industry is a "Soma" metaphor.   Soma is a governmentally provided drug to the people living in the Brave New World. It represents a way to escape pain, discomfort, etc. IOW, escape from REALITY.

Texan Momma Tick on a mission to make Texans into Vegetarians

The Bite Of The Lone Star Tick Can Give The Victim Allergies To?
When it comes to good PR, the entire tick family can’t catch a break. Not only are all ticks parasitic, but they can also serve as vectors for disease. While the best known tick-borne illness is Lyme Disease (an infectious disease caused by bacteria carried by numerous tick species), there’s also a really unpleasant side effect from the bite of the, rather ironically named, lone star tick.

When most people think of the phrase “lone star”, they probably think of Texas, a state whose nickname is “The Lone Star State” (because of it’s red, white, and blue flag with a single star). The lone star tick is named such because the pattern on its body looks like a single star. The irony comes into play when you consider that people associate Texas, the lone star state, with beef because of its current and historical ties with the cattle industry, but a bite from a lone star tick can induce an allergy to red meat.
Amblyomma americanum

Although the effect of the bite and the ensuing development of the allergy is still under study, the bite appears to give the victim an allergy to Galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose, a carbohydrate found in the cell membranes of non-primate mammals. You read that last bit correctly, the lone star tick’s bite will make you allergic to everything from hamburgers to venison steaks to rabbit sausage, but you’ll be more than safe to eat a chimp or your neighbor.

Agelbert COMMENT: Thank you Sierra Club, for paving the way for Hillary Clinton to remove any and all barriers to Fracking in the USA and the world, as she did during her tenure as Secretary of State.

We are also pleased that Victoria Nuland is President Hillary Clinton's pick for Secretary of State.

Thank you Sierra Club, for ensuring a huge increase in the price of fossil fuels (i.e. price shock bonanza!) from the war tensions that Victoria Nuland, neocon State Department queen of the "let's go to war with Russia" group will joyfully generate.

We are ready, willing and able to patriotically and in altruistic fashion (OF COURSE!), work arm in arm with the Clinton Administration to provide peace, prosperity and lots of cheap, clean energy to the world for the welfare of all humanity.

I have this idea that we might be seeing the emergence of some kind of extremely prejudiced left-wing youth movement, sort of like an American Red Guard, where crowds of high school and college kids unite via social media to plan big violent protests aimed at making us all conform to the Politically Correct/BLM/Globalist BS that they have been spoon fed in the school system.

We need an extremely prejudiced left wing movement to combat the extremely prejudiced right wing movement.  Nature abhors a vacuum.

RE

I agree with you.  We don't want the Fourth Reich.

It bothers me that the Millenials are so angry, even though I think they're somewhat off-base in their thinking. They are, after all, the future.

My son called up from Chicago at 2 am on election night, furious with me because he thought I had voted for Jill Stein, and therefore aided Trump in winning. Wanted to chew me out for "throwing my vote away". I had to remind him that Trump carried Texas by a wide margin with or without my help. (I didn't actually vote for Stein anyway, although I considered it.)

I think what is so disappointing for some people is what people like Trump represents and what it conveys by not actively going against him. The image of Trump is he is sexist, racist, homophobic and has xenophobic tendencies towards immigrants. By not fighting him you are on some level condoning those things or at best thinking these issues are not important.

The other thing, by bringing people like him into office it is giving the image that Americans are somewhat uncaring, not kind and suspicious of foreigners which goes against America's traditional values. I say all this because that is the same kind of arguments made when people voted for Brexit. What is also similar were the outcries, protests and the general despair at what this voting conveyed to the international community. There were people of my age who were ashamed to be British when they heard that Brexit had won. Many people, especially the younger generation want to be seen as open minded and have socially liberal outlooks on life and Trump (or Brexit) show the complete opposite message to the outside world. Perhaps that is the source of grief and anguish your son experienced it was certainly a common sentiment among the millennial generation in Britain.

EXACTLY RIGHT!

The Trailer Trash Trump people are already doing their typical right wing imitation of a certain fossil fueler by mocking these protesters and telling them to "quit whining".

As soon as Trailer Trash Trump is inaugurated, just watch the breathtakingly hypocritical position of the Republicans in Congress when they yammer about "respecting the law" and the "Constitutional right of the President" to name a Supine Supreme Court Justice and how we are a "nation of laws" and how "Unpatriotic it is to filibuster or interfere with the serious and Patriotic work of the legally elected Republican loyal servants."...
LOL

Eddie, these protests will soon blow over. The people you have to worry about are not, as your multiple posts and preoccupation with this indicate, on the left wing.

The people you have to worry about are the millennials that voted for Trailer Trash Trump that will see NO JOBS showing up within a year.

I know you don't believe that. But the racist, xenophobic, baser side of the white electorate has been unleashed. Trump is NOT going to be able to control it. I respect your opinion and understand your fears, but please consider that well to do people like you, not Trailer Treasure like me, will be in the crosshairs of those jobless whites angry at the gross double cross and mendacity of Trailer Trash Trump, regardless of the FACT that, AS IN THE PAST, Wall Street and Trump will do everything possible to encourage scapegoating the "dangerous left" as the "problem".

That is what you may be doing, albeit inadvertently. If you really believe that is a valid fear, I warn you that you won't see the danger to yourself from your own poor white neighbors. I have nothing to gain by instilling groundless fears in you. I am saying this for your welfare.

Now for some apocalyptic humor:

Meanwhile, expect the fossil fuelers to prudently explain to us how much prosperity is coming our way with the melting of all that useless ice in Antarctica and Greenland and all the world's glaciers. Never mind the pollution in the atmosphere and the oceans. Never mind the Sixth Great extinction in progress killing a disproportionately large portion of high order vertebrate and mammal species. That's just evolution and the tardigrades are just the march of evolutionary progress.

And sea level rise is NO PROBLEMO. Haven't you heard about Death Valley? The fossil fuel industry has great skills at building pipelines, you know. They will, for a prudent fee, of course, and to protect our national security so that New York, New Orleans and Houston won't flood, turn Death  Valley into LIFE Lake.

The hotels and pier facilities along LIFE Lake's shores, plus great gas stations strategically and conveniently placed to fuel all those 3,000 hp Evinrude speedboats will bring jobs, prosperity and beauty to America!

Don't you know that the brave fossil fuel industry is expert at digging holes? I mean, they have world class geologists drilling hither and yon, so they know what's down there. If the oceans really are going up, something that MKing and his scientific, prudent friends in the fossil fuel industry will calmly explain is not proven yet (but just in case, they are here, like the government, to help ), it's simply a matter of relocating the sea water to new lakes the fossil fuel industry can create for Trump and the world!

They will all have great golf courses too! As the oceans go up, the fossil fuel industry will be happy to pipe sea water to all the below sea level places in the world. Being very scientific and prudent about all these job creating  activities, they realize that additional new holes will have to be dug for new lakes with lots of lakefront property and recreation areas.  ;D  Yes, they normally just drill without making such big holes. But the Clean Coal people are real good at making big holes. So our loyal servants Big Oil, & Gas plus Big Coal will dig big holes in high country like the high desert and pump sea water to them to keep those pesky oceans from getting out of hand. We will all be happy to increase the subsidies for fossil fuel industry activities so they can complete this world saving venture without punitive expenses.  ;D

Yes, I know that sounds wonderful. But it gets BETTER!  There is an ADDED beauty to this great and noble Super project by the fossil fuel industry. All that ground they dig up (after they process the minerals appropriately, of course - they have to run a profitable business, ya know ;))  can be placed over flat land places like Kansas or Florida. They can have contractors build fancy neighborhoods that look down on the surrounding areas with spectacular views! And in places like Michigan and North Dakota, the new mountains can host sky resorts!

As MKing, would say, the future is bright for our loyal servants, the Fossil Fuel Industry.

I'm sure the Tardigrades agree.

North Pole expected to reach 50 degrees warmer than normal

Temperatures are expected to climb to just below the freezing point on Thursday, much higher than is usual during an Arctic winter.

Weston Williams @westonwolf359

December 21, 2016 —Just a few days before Christmas, Santa may have to take off a few layers to stay comfortable at the North Pole.

According to current weather models, the Arctic is going to be unseasonably warm later this week, with air temperatures climbing to just under the freezing point (32 degrees F.) on Thursday. While that may seem plenty chilly, it's sweltering by Arctic standards, about 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit above normal for this time of year.

While anomalous warm days have always been possible – weather everywhere can have odd short-term fluctuations – some indicators suggest that unseasonable warmth at the North Pole is becoming more frequent due to global climate change and melting ice.

And after a record-breaking warm year and an unusually warm November that significantly dropped ice coverage in the Arctic, it looks like 2016 may be ending on yet another unpleasantly warm note in the far north.

According to a study published in the journal Nature earlier this year, Arctic temperature spikes occur once or twice every decade since the 1950s. But this is the second December in a row where a temperature spike like this has happened in the Arctic. Last year's spike was even more extreme than this one is predicted to be, with temperatures passing the melting point, an extremely rare occurrence in an Arctic winter.

The predicted temperatures later this week are driven in part by a series of storms that are bringing uncommonly warm air to the region. The main culprit is a storm set to hit Greenland and Britain that could be a record setter for strongest storm to develop in that area of the North Atlantic.

While two consecutive years of unseasonable heat in Arctic winter could be an indicator of climate change, Zachary Labe, a doctoral student researching the Arctic at the University of California-Irvine, cautions that two similar instances in a row do not necessarily define a new normal – at least, not yet.

"I don't think anyone can for sure say" that these unseasonable temperatures are becoming more common, Mr. Labe told The Washington Post. "The variability in the Arctic is tremendous."

A heat spike like this may be unusual, but the overall upward climb in Arctic temperatures is clear. While the rest of the world has also been feeling the heat on climate change, the Arctic is warming about twice as fast as the rest of the globe, making for much more dramatic environmental shifts in the far North.

In November, for instance, a month usually associated with the growth of ice in the Arctic, a sudden reversal in this trend led to the loss of 19,000 square miles of ice over five days, a phenomenon only precedented by a smaller ice loss in 2013, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Increasingly low ice coverage
may also have contributed to this week's projected highs, since the depleted ice cover east of the Nordic sea has created a channel for warmer air to flow North.

Quote
"You have more real estate available to advect the warm and moist air northward,"
Ryan Maue, a meteorologist with WeatherBell Analytics, told The Washington Post.

President Trump has promised to Trump the mistaken belief in climate change, along with any silly concerns about pollution, the Sixth Mass Extinction, the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, White fun and games to put the minorities 'back in their place', any regulations that interfere with progress (i.e. fossil fuel industry profits) and China (if you can't beat em' nuke em').

As our Dear Leader Donald J. Drumpf (original family surname) says about non-one percenter humans and all those other life forms in the biosphere when he does his Marie Antoinette imitation, let them eat oil.

The challenges of an observant person in a "Capitalism is good" brainwashed society.

Did you know that Trump has a fetish for the number 666? The Trump tower is 666 feet high and Trump lives on the 66th floor. Perhaps his bedroom is in the 66.6th part of the building. LOL!

The reason 666 is a big deal for a lot of people that like money is because King Solomon, reputed to be the richest person in history, received a tribute of 666 "talents" (a LARGE several pound measure of gold) each year. But in the New Testament of the bible, the number 666 is associated with the anti-Christ.

I was gob smacked when I learned that Trump's Jewish son-in-law is involved in a $666,000,000 financing deal with Santander Bank (world class crooks - 20th largest bank in the world that unloaded junk bonds on customers without warning of the risk) for some building project.

It looks like Trump wants to play the role of the End Times World Leader, whether he believes in any scripture or not.

At any rate, he is really obsessed with the number 666. I find that strange and troubling. Hitler was superstitious too...
Top five Donald Trump eerie 666 connections:

 1. Trump Tower is on 666 Fifth Avenue, New York City

 2. The Tower also happens to measure 666 feet tall

 3. Trump inherited his grandmother’s real estate empire when she died on June 6, 1966 = 6-6-6

 4. The billionaire tycoon announced his candidacy for president on June 16, 2015 = 6 + (1×6) + (1+5) = 6-6-6

 5. And the year 2016 when he won the US election = 666+666+666+6+6+6
