Michael Galant:
Let’s be clear, the Pentagon is not underfunded. In fact, you may remember that just a few weeks ago, President Biden proposed an astronomical Pentagon budget —
over three-quarters of a TRILLION dollars — for the upcoming year.
But now the arms industry and some of their backers in Congress
want even MORE money on top of that $750 billion+ for more unnecessary, dangerous weapons, and defense contractor giveaways.
This is crucial: the American Jobs Plan can’t be about Pentagon funding — it must stay focused on laying the foundation for our future by investing in people-centered solutions.
As the country reels from the crises of racism, economic inequality, unaffordable healthcare, and more — only made worse by the COVID pandemic — we must push those in power to redefine what security actually means and how they use their power to play a positive role in peoples’ lives.
Padding the Pentagon budget with billions of dollars in infrastructure and jobs funding when our communities are critically in need is not how we build the resilience necessary for people to thrive.
That’s why I’m asking you to take two minutes right now to
let Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Schumer know: No money for the Pentagon and arms dealers in the American Jobs Plan❗ Thank you for working for
🕊️ peace,
Michael, Faith, Abbey, and the Win Without War teamP.S. For those of you eager to cut the Pentagon budget in general, don’t worry. Debates and legislation about those funds will happen through the regular defense budgeting process, just like they do every year. And just like every year, we’re ramping up our fight to cut that waste!
