https://go.nowth.is/KnowThisIn US news and current events today, Rep. Katie Porter explains why some people are scared to look at their medical bills.
67% of people in the U.S. worry about unexpected medical bills, which is more than they worry about insurance deductibles, prescription drug costs, or basic costs of living like rent, food, and gas.
Nearly 2 in 5 insured adults said they got a surprisingly big medical bill between August 2017 and August 2018. Over a dozen states passed legislation to prevent surprise medical bills. Bipartisan bills passed multiple House committees in early 2020. Even Trump expressed interest in stopping surprise medical billing.
The House passed legislation that would address surprise medical bills and prescription drug pricing, but Sen. McConnell is stalling the legislation, with no plans to bring it to a vote.
