Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh stumbles out of the gate

Bill Palmer | 11:58 pm EDT July 9, 2018

Palmer Report » Analysis

Brett Kavanaugh just did a big favor for those who are seeking to defeat his nomination to the Supreme Court. Donald Trump could have picked any far-right judge and made his billionaire donors and extremist supporters happy. So why did he choose Kavanaugh specifically? You and I know that it obviously involved a private conversation about personal loyalty. But thanks to Kavanaugh’s big stupid mouth, now the whole world knows it.

After Donald Trump introduced Brett Kavanaugh as his Supreme Court nominee, Kavanaugh stepped to the microphone and said this: “No president has ever consulted more widely or talked to more people from more backgrounds to seek input for a Supreme Court nomination.” It was precisely what Trump wanted to hear. It was also the dumbest thing Kavanaugh has ever said in public, because he just personally married himself to Trump in the court of public opinion.

There are two ways we can convince mainstream America to ferociously stand up and fight against this Supreme Court pick. The first is to point out that Brett Kavanaugh will cast the deciding vote to overturn Roe v Wade, gay marriage, and other crucial rulings. This simply requires pointing to his existing record of far-right extremism. The second is to frame Kavanaugh as being a corrupt puppet of Donald Trump. This was going to be a difficult sell, until Kavanaugh just handed us the above quote.

I’ll post Brett Kavanaugh’s words about Donald Trump again, because this is the quote that you copy-paste and send to all your friends who wouldn’t normally care about the Supreme Court but who think Trump is a corrupt criminal: “No president has ever consulted more widely or talked to more people from more backgrounds to seek input for a Supreme Court nomination.”

These are not the words of a legitimate judge. They’re the words of a corrupt judge who is willing and eager to do Trump’s 🦀 personal bidding 🦍 at the expense of America.

Fascism is far too entrenched in U.S. government policies.  >:(

The U.S. is a Fascist Petro-State 🐉😈 👹🦕🦖.

Trump is a more in-our-faces Fascist than the other POTUS fascist tools, but they all serve the M.I.C., period.

Webster warned that Trump is a full blown Fascist before the election.

Brett Kavanaugh is a Threat to Racial Justice and Voting Rights

BY Marjorie Cohn Truthout

PUBLISHED September 8, 2018

SNIPPET:

Hirono quoted an email in which Kavanaugh wrote, “I think the testimony needs to make clear that any program targeting Native Hawaiians as a group is subject to strict scrutiny and of questionable validity under the Constitution.”

That email was one of tens of thousands of documents the GOP-led Senate Judiciary Committee had marked “committee confidential” in an unprecedented attempt to hide them from the public. By releasing that email, Hirono risked censure, discipline or removal from the Senate.

Hirono, who said Kavanaugh’s views on Native Hawaiians are “factually wrong” and incredibly offensive, told the nominee:

Donald Trump and the prosperity gospel

Robert Harrington | 12:12 pm EDT October 10, 2018

Palmer Report » Analysis

When last year CNN fired sometime commentator and full time religious studies scholar Reza Aslan for tweeting that Donald Trump was a “piece of s h i t,” one was left to wonder if it was because he employed a profanity in describing the President of the United States, or merely because he committed the journalistic heresy of stating the obvious. Whichever it was, one cannot also help but wonder if CNN knew not what it did. For it was also about that time that Aslan put his perspicacious finger on the not-so-obvious reasons why “the Donald” has gathered unto himself so rabid a following, and how, after all this time, that following appears to have remained bafflingly loyal.

The good news is the aforementioned following we are concerned with here is at least confined to the pulpits and pews of white fundamentalist Christians. Were it not for Aslan, the question of why Trump should gain such popularity with such a group might remain an ostensible head scratcher. But for this recipe for Dragon Stew, Aslan actually provides us with a plausible dragon: Donald Trump is a religious cult.

That cult comes compliments of something called “the prosperity gospel.” The idea goes that the more righteous a man is, the more God blesses him with material wealth. Trump’s ostentatious trappings of wealth are the obvious proof that God must think Trump a pretty groovy guy.

Some of the cynical among us noticed that “the prosperity gospel” started to appear right around the same time that the dorsal fins of the big-haired, Rolex-wearing televangelists started to cut the water. Mansions needed sanctification, luxury cars and private jets required the consecration of Elijah’s chariots of fire. The prosperity gospel gave the perfect fit.

“But none of this … explains the most important phenomenon about white evangelicals in America,” Aslan says, “and that is this: In the span of a single election cycle, white evangelicals have gone from being the group in America that is most likely to say that a politician’s morality matters to the group that is now least likely to say that.”

In other words, the cult of personality surrounding Donald Trump has managed in a single election cycle to convince good people that doing bad things is okay. The last time we witnessed a phenomenon like that was when a community of Americans settled in a little regarded country called Guyana led by a little known evangelical named Jim Jones. This time the stakes are much, much higher.

Agelbert NOTE: The Heretical Doctrine of Demons called "Prosperity Preaching" (a principle tenet of the Antinomian Christian Heretical teaching), that the pseudo-Christians in the USA are enthralled with, is thousands of years old.

NOUN

a person who maintains that Christians are freed from the moral law by virtue of grace as set forth in the gospel.

I have a deceased brother-in-law who worshipped monetary wealth above any Christian duty to help the disadvantaged and poor of this world. He thought it was A-OKAY to be GREEDY, as his wife (my sister, also a Mammon worshipping Pseudo-Christian) still, unfortunately for her, does.

In the Epistle II Peter in the New Testament, Peter addresses the Antinomians who claimed to be Christians. These Heretics were defined by their insistance that it was okay to sin to get more money and wantonly engage in just about any worldly lust they wanted to engage in based on a deliberate twisting of the Holy Scripture (SEE Paul: "We are saved by Grace, not works").

Peter makes it crystal clear that claiming to be a Christian and chasing money, comfort, power and the lusts of the flesh is HERESY. Anyone practicing it is doomed to perdition, period.

Quote
II PETER 2: 17-22

17  These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18  For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean [5] escaped from them who live in error. 19  While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20  For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21  For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22  But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Max Blumenthal (born December 18, 1977) is an American author, journalist, and blogger. He is a senior writer for Alternet and formerly a writer for The Daily Beast, Al Akhbar, and Media Matters for America. He is the author of two books including Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party (2009), which appeared on The New York Times bestsellers list, and Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel (2013).

Blumenthal joined Lebanon's Al Akhbar in late 2011 primarily to write about Israel-Palestine issues and foreign-policy debates in Washington, noting, upon leaving in mid-2012 in protest of its coverage of the Syrian Civil War, that it "gave me more latitude than any paper in the United States to write about ... Israel and Palestine". He ended his association with Al Akhbar in June 2012, over what he viewed as the newspaper's pro-Assad editorial line during the Syrian Civil War that he said was spearheaded by Amal Saad-Ghorayeb.

Blumenthal contributes weekly articles to Alternet where he has been a senior writer since September 2014. He focuses on the deepening crisis in the Middle East and its role in shaping political dynamics and public opinion in the US, particularly the special relationship with Israel. He occasionally covers domestic issues such as corporate media consolidation, the influence of the Christian right and police brutality. His reporting from the Gaza strip in 2014 was developed into a book, The 51 Day War: Ruin and Resistance in Gaza.

Blumenthal's articles and video documentaries have appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Daily Beast, The Nation, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, Independent Film Channel (IFC), Salon, The Real News, and Al Jazeera English, among other publications.

Republican Gomorrah : Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party (2009)

Quote
Whether it was his revelation that Sarah Palin was "anointed" by a Kenyan priest famous for casting out witches, or his confronting Republican congressional leaders and John McCain's family at the GOP convention about the party's opposition to sex education (and hence, the rise in teen pregnancies like that of Palin's daughter), or his expose of the eccentric multimillionaire theocrat behind California's Prop 8 anti- gay marriage initiative, Blumenthal has become one of the most important and most constantly cited journalists on how fringe movements are becoming the Republican Party mainstream.

Republican Gomorrah is a bestiary of dysfunction, scandal and sordidness from the dark heart of the forces that now have a leash on the party. It shows how those forces are the ones that establishment Republicans-like John McCain-have to bow to if they have any hope of running for President. It shows that Sarah Palin was the logical choice of a party in the control of theocrats. But more that just an expose, Republican Gomorrah shows that many of the movement's leading figures have more in common than just the power they command within conservative ranks.

Their personal lives have been stained by crisis and scandal: depression, mental illness, extra-marital affairs, struggles with homosexual urges, heavy medication, addiction to pornography, serial domestic abuse, and even murder. Inspired by the work of psychologists Erich Fromm, who asserted that the fear of freedom propels anxiety-ridden people into authoritarian settings, Blumenthal explains in a compelling narrative how a culture of personal crisis has defined the radical right, transforming the nature of the Republican Party for the next generation and setting the stage for the future of American politics.

Grace 👍rated it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book came highly recommended by Frank Schaeffer as in 'son of' Francis Schaeffer the father of the religious right.

As a person who has had to walk away from religion and church because of the hatred and bigotry that has surfaced since President Obama was elected I must say that this book only served to confirm many of the things that I saw were wrong with christian politics. Blumenthal delves into the Rusdoony/North dominion theology and how this has served as a catalyst to the religious right from legislation to burning and bombing abortion clinics and murdering abortion providers to the home school movement.

The one statistic that stood out was the fact that the STD and teen pregnancy rates are higher in areas that teach abstinence only sex education. Abstinence only education is the preferred method of the religious right wingers.

The book also covered in depth Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family and his interference in the government and legislative processes since the Bush Administration.

This book is a must read for any Christian who votes on only the issues of abortion and gay marriage.

Toxic Christianity : Conservative Evangelicals
Unapologetic in Their Support for Trump

SNIPPET:

"Conservatives & Christians need to stop electing 'nice guys,'" Falwell 😈 tweeted on September 28. "They might make great Christian leaders, but the US needs street fighters like @realDonaldTrump 😈 at every level of government … & many Repub leaders are a bunch of wimps!"

In this pre-Midterm election period, conservative evangelicals have opened the media floodgates. There was the early October theatrical release of a film titled "The Trump Prophecy," – made in cooperation with Falwell's Liberty University – which maintains that Trump's election was ordained by God.

At Least 11 Dead in Pittsburgh Synagogue Attack 😱
https://www.truthdig.com/articles/multiple-casualties-after-shooting-near-pittsburgh-synagogue/

Donald Trump’s 👹 rally meltdown after Pittsburgh synagogue shooting is one of his lowest moments yet

Bill Palmer | 6:49 pm EDT October 27, 2018

Palmer Report » Analysis

America has been hit with three different terrorist attacks this week. In all three cases, the perpetrator was right in Donald Trump’s wheelhouse: far-right, racist, and deranged. Rather than take responsibility for any of it, Trump keeps ratcheting up his divisive and often violent rhetoric. Tonight he held yet another political rally, and this time he reached a new low while addressing today’s terrorist attack at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

As recently as yesterday, Donald Trump was standing in the White House and attacking “globalists” – which is century old antisemitic code for “Jews” – yet now that it suits him politically, he’s suddenly on the side of the Jews today. But during his rally, he wasn’t really siding with the Jews, so much as he was siding with the NRA. That’s right, Trump is now insisting that places like synagogues should arm themselves. Because if we’ve learned one thing about mass shootings, it’s that adding chaotic crossfire to the mix is the best way to make it turn out better.

Donald Trump then decided to use this shooting to start advocating for the death penalty. This stood out as odd, considering that the synagogue shooter Robert Bowers is white, and Trump has a history of only calling for the death penalty for black people. While the death penalty is certainly a Republican position, it’s weird and unseemly that he’s suddenly pushing for it now.

Unless we missed it, Donald Trump didn’t call for the Trump supporter in the Trump van to get the death penalty for trying to assassinate two former U.S. Presidents this week. Maybe Trump wants Robert Bowers to die because, while the two share the same far-right extremist views, Bowers dared to criticize Trump for not being enough of an extremist. And yes, Trump really is this petty.

Somewhere in there, Donald Trump decided that tonight would be a good time to dishonestly attack Elizabeth Warren over her Native American ancestry – even though she’s already taken a DNA test that proves she was telling the truth all along. Trump is simply deranged – and he’s every bit as deranged as the guy who shot up the synagogue today, the guy who tried to shoot up a black church this week, and the would-be assassin in the Trump van. The 25th Amendment was created for situations like this.

LDF Statement on Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting

Sherrilyn A. Ifill, LDF contact@naacpldf.org via mail.salsalabs.net

October 27, 2018 9:04 PM (2 hours ago)

LDF. Defend. Educate. Empower.

LDF Statement on Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting

📢 Sherrilyn Ifill, President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF), issued the following statement in response to reports of multiple casualties Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA:

"The Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh has been victimized by the most terrible violence during Sabbath services. Our hearts go out to the entire congregation and community. We stand in solidarity with those in the Jewish faith as they mourn this unimaginable tragedy.

"This violent act of terror comes at a moment when the language of racism, anti-Semitism and dehumanizing rhetoric targeting political opponents has been promoted and condoned by elected leaders in our country, including President Trump . Just this week Democratic and progressive leaders around the country were victims of multiple attempted bombing attacks by a supporter of the President.

"We demand that our political leaders end their violent, racist and anti-Semitic rhetoric and strongly condemn those who stoke and fan the flames of violence and division. There are real consequences for vulnerable people across our country. Provoking violence cannot be accepted as a political tactic. It is contrary to the principles of democracy and humanity, and it must stop today. We need real leaders in our country who are ready to stand up for equality, justice and peace.

"We cannot separate today's terrible act of violence at the Tree of Life synagogue from other acts of terrorism that have targeted Americans based on race, religion or ethnicity. We well remember the pain of Charleston in 2015 and the massacre at the Sikh temple in 2012. Just a few days ago an armed gunman tried to enter an African American church in Kentucky, just before killing two separate, innocent Black grandparents in a Kroger parking lot. These shootings continue a legacy of racist violence against Black people, Jewish people, immigrants, and other racial and religious minorities. The country's failure to acknowledge and confront that unbroken history and learn from it is literally killing our communities.

Anti-Defamation League director: Rise in anti-Semitism 'more than what one man does'

Source: The Hill

BY MEGAN KELLER - 10/28/18 09:58 AM EDT

The chief executive and director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Jonathon Greenblatt, Sunday said that his organization will continue to call out rhetoric used by President Trump, but emphasized that the rise in anti-Semitism across the U.S. is the work of more than one man.

"I was encouraged that the president said something yesterday," Greenblatt told ABC's "This Week," regarding Trump's statements after a shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday morning that killed at least 11 people.

"But it isn't only what you say after a tragedy that matters, it's the environment that you create with your rhetoric," he said. "And at the ADL we have spoken out when candidate Trump 🦀 or President Trump has invoked anti-Semitic memes or used the rhetoric favored by White supremacists. But it’s more than what one man does," Greenblatt added.

"Whether you’re an elected official meeting with Nazi sympathizers or bringing Holocaust deniers to the House of Representative or if you’re a candidate for office invoking wild anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish financiers like George Soros manipulating world events or if you’re a religious leader referring to Jews as 'termites,' all of this is absolutely unacceptable."
