This might be Donald Trump’s ugliest poll number yet

Bill Palmer | 7:00 pm EST November 18, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

Every few days we see yet another major polling outlet announce that roughly half of all Americans want Donald Trump impeached and removed from office. That number has been holding steady for a couple weeks, but it has a chance to rise further if the public considers the televised impeachment hearings to be compelling enough. Now we’re seeing a poll number which suggests just how high that number could climb.

The new ABC News / IPSOS poll says that 51% of Americans want Donald Trump impeached and removed. Okay, nothing new there. But that same poll says that 70% of Americans think Trump was wrong for having tried to get Ukraine to smear Joe Biden. This means 19% of Americans are saying that Trump was wrong but shouldn’t be impeached and removed.

This is actually a worrisome thing for Donald Trump. If you’ve decided that you’re going to support Trump no matter what surfaces about him or how ugly it gets, you’re going to tell a pollster that you think he did nothing wrong in Ukraine, whether you believe that or not. The people telling a pollster that they think Trump was indeed in the wrong, but they don’t want him impeached, are people who are on the fence. They’re leaving the door open to be convinced that he should be impeached.

So this ABC News poll is telling us that as many as 70% of Americans could see themselves siding with impeachment and removal by the time the House hearings are over. If the pro-removal number does end up getting that high, Senate Republicans will have to seriously consider removing Donald Trump in a last ditch effort at selfishly preserving their own personal reelection prospects. This is just one poll, so the key will be to watch and see if other upcoming polls confirm that 70% of Americans think Trump did something wrong with Ukraine. But this is Trump’s ugliest poll number yet.

Donald Trump’s attacks on Colonel Vindman reach absolutely disgusting level

Bill Palmer | 12:10 pm EST November 19, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

As we speak, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Vindman is publicly testifying before the House impeachment inquiry about Donald Trump’s Ukraine extortion scandal. In his opening statement, Vindman told his father – who brought the family to the United States decades ago – that he shouldn’t worry about him. But behind the scenes, some troubling things are happening to the Vindman family.

We’ve all seen the vicious attacks that Donald Trump and his apologists have launched on Colonel Vindman. As a result of those attacks, the Washington Post now says that the Army has had to step up its efforts to protect his home from potential attack. The Army is even considering moving Vindman and his family to an Army base just to keep them safe.

Make no mistake here. The Army isn’t trying to protect Colonel Vindman from terrorists or random criminals. The Army is trying to protect him and his family from the deranged supporters of a psychotically and violently out of control President of the United States.

Donald Trump is the most egregious, dangerous, and treasonous criminal in the history of the United States. His madman criminal antics are now forcing the United States Army to go to great lengths to protect an Army Lieutenant Colonel from the violent wrath of Trump’s maniacal supporters. Trump can’t get to prison fast enough.

House Democrats just keep piling on as this afternoon’s impeachment hearings swing sharply their way

Bill Palmer | 6:28 pm EST November 19, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

House Republicans thought they were somehow helping Donald Trump by requesting that Kurt Volker and Tim Morrison publicly testify to the House impeachment inquiry. But Morrison hasn’t said anything that helps Trump, and Volker is now revising his earlier testimony to throw Trump and Rudy Giuliani all the way under the bus. But House Democrats aren’t letting up.

Kurt Volker used his public testimony today to reveal that he suddenly recalled Gordon Sondland’s incriminating antics during a meeting with John Bolton. Volker, despite being a Republican diplomatic operative, also went out of his way to spell out that the fake scandal about Democratic candidate Joe Biden is indeed fake. Heading into the break, we thought maybe this would be enough to get Volker off the hook for his previous testimony, which appears to have been misleading.

But now that the break is over, Democratic House Counsel Daniel Goldman and Adam Schiff have each begun hammering away at Volker and Morrison over what appear to be additional inconsistencies in their testimony. The two witnesses now look at least mildly shellshocked upon realizing that they’re not getting off easily.

We don’t think House Democrats will end up making a perjury referral against the likes of Kurt Volker, once Trump has been finished off. Instead, we suspect House Democrats are piling on against Volker right now, as a way of sending a message to any upcoming witnesses who might be tempted to be less than forthcoming in their testimony. Democrats are playing hardball.

House 🐘 GOP crashes and burns as impeachment hearings take their ugliest turn for 🦀 Donald Trump yet

Bill Palmer | 6:40 pm EST November 19, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

The sun went down for the day quite awhile ago in Washington DC, yet Kurt Volker and Tim Morrison are still publicly testifying to the House impeachment inquiry. Morrison hasn’t helped Donald Trump one bit, and Volker is throwing Trump as far under the bus as he can throw him. To be clear, these are the two witnesses that House Republicans wanted to publicly testify.

This gives you a sense of just how poorly today has been going for the House Republicans who are desperately trying to find a way to save Donald Trump, and instead keep accidentally stomping on Trump’s toe. This morning, these same House Republicans went way too far in trying to smear Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, to the point that it gave Vindman instant credibility as a witness.

After House Republican Counsel Steve Castor massively overstepped while attacking Vindman this morning, and surely learned that he was getting slammed for it by the pundits and the public, he pulled his punches so thoroughly during the afternoon hearings that it was difficult to tell which side he was even working for.

The House Republicans are now whining, complaining, and hyperventilating on live national television as today’s hearings – which began nearly ten hours ago and are still ongoing – continue to go even worse for Donald Trump. The House GOP is literally begging for today’s hearings to simply come to an end, which tells you how things are going.

Sondland acknowledges there was a ‘quid pro quo’

Sondland planned to testify Wednesday more bluntly than he had before that Trump and his personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani sought to condition an important White House invite for Ukraine’s new president to demands that his country publicly launch investigations that could damage Trump’s Democratic political opponents.

“I know that members of this committee have frequently framed these complicated issues in the form of a simple question: Was there a ‘quid pro quo?’” Sondland planned to say, according to prepared remarks. “With regard to the requested White House call and White House meeting, the answer is yes.”

Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, also planned to tell the House Intelligence Committee that while he never knew for sure if the White House had frozen nearly $400 million in security assistance as part of the pressure campaign against Ukraine, he operated as if that were the case.

“In the absence of any credible explanation for the hold, I came to the conclusion that the aid, like the White House visit, was jeopardized,” Sondland said. “My belief was that if Ukraine did something to demonstrate a serious intention” to launch the investigations Trump wanted, “then the hold on military aid would be lifted.”

I'm sure you've already seen where Bill Palmer has Pompeo ""resigning."

Yes, I read that bit of wishful thinking by Palmer. Pompeo is a Kochroach, something that is like the roof for Palmer (over his head). Consequently, Palmer's grasp of the consequences of Trump this or that do not take that greater (i.e. US Government by Hydrocarbon Hellspawn) reality into account.

Trump is a symptom of the Hydrocarbon Hellspawn ROT destroying the U.S. government and dooming the biosphere as a Capitalists 'R' US bonus.

However, that does not mean the U.S. Economy won't be eaten alive by the Chinese economy prior to the full brunt of the Sixth Mass Extinction from the unabated (Capitalism caused) degradation of the biosphere. Palmer would vigorously disagree with me, since he thinks everything is gonna be just peachy if Trump and Pence go away and the Democrats take the White House. That is wishful thinking.

About 500 U.S. oligarchs calling virtually ALL the shots evidences that US foreign and domestic policy really IS GOVERNED BY CAPITALIST WISHFUL THINKING that is taking us, eventually, to Catastrophic Climate Chaos doom, but much sooner, to economic and political destruction.

All that said, as pathetic a wish as it is, I hold out hope for our country through a Sanders Presidency, provided both houses of Congress vote to support his policies. Again, I do not expect Palmer, a champion of all things Pelosi, to agree with me on that. However, Palmer is quite right about how dangerous Trump is for the USA. I applaud all his efforts to expose Trump's chicanery. That is why I post much of his impeachment commentary in this forum (Any port in the storm, and all that).

I yield the floor to Paul Street:

We need Trump and Pence out now, not some time next year. The way to make that happen is with a mass movement that will not only sweep him from power but challenge the richly bipartisan racist, sexist, imperial and eco-cidal class rule system that hatched the Trump regime in the first place.

Thom  Hartmann covers Republicans' pretzel logic response to Sondland pretty well. I watched a lot of it. There was a lot of legerdemain from the Republicans AND Sondland >:(, to be sure. However, Sondland did end up being cornered by a smart Democrat into admitting, begrudgingly, that Trump was the "dealer" that "dealt the cards" Sondland was "given". That is a big deal because it delegitimizes (i.e. makes a mockery of, calls bullshit on, etc. - you get the idea) all the Republican mendacious efforts to throw absolutely anybody under the 'MOTIVE for the Ukrainian Scam' bus but the BOSS (i.e. Trump), who was the main beneficiary of making it happen. Trump dealt the cards to all the "players". I'm sure the political cartoonists will have a field day with Trump's "card table". ;D

The tragedy for our country is that it has taken 3 years to bring this traitor down, and it is still likely that the senate will exonerate him. The mandate for We the People is to vote 🦀 Trump and every 🐘 Republican out of office November 2020.

I vote Progressive and support Bernie Sanders. Even Joe Biden concedes it’s time for us to take America back, and return our country to the people.

The momentum is there to shift America towards focusing on repairing 40+ years of rule by billionaire oligarchs and corporations.

While others may defer to the rich, Bernie won’t, and I believe he’ll improve the quality of life for all of us, giving U.S. Medicare for all, a Green New Deal, a real social safety net, and worker rights and protections.

So this is how 😈  Bill Barr is going to play it >:(

Bill Palmer | 8:40 pm EST November 21, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

This week Donald Trump’s lapdog Lindsey Graham announced that the Department of Justice will release the Inspector General report into the Trump-Russia probe origins on December 9th. As we’ve explained, Attorney General Bill Barr will obviously doctor the report to Trump’s liking, and Trump will take it as a victory, even though it won’t gain Trump a single vote. Now we’re seeing details on the nonsense that Barr is about to unleash.

Barr has leaked to CNN that the DOJ is investigating an FBI official for having allegedly altered the paperwork that led to a FISA surveillance warrant being approved against Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. This all too conveniently fits with one of the most baseless, deranged, and laughable pro-Trump conspiracy theories, which is that the FBI turned itself inside out in order to frame a nobody like Page of being the (witting or unwitting) Russian asset that he clearly was.

So this is how Bill Barr is going to play it, apparently. He’s going to announce that this FBI official was criminally conspiring against the Trump 2016 campaign. There will likely never be any actual prosecution of this official, who probably just made a typo or something, because that would backfire. But Trump will still spin it as proof that the “Deep State” was out to get him from the start, just as he did after Barr falsely leaked that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was being indicted.

Perhaps Bill Barr’s doctored report will include additional similar false allegations against people who don’t have a big enough microphone to fight back. This will be a travesty, but it won’t gain Trump a single vote. It’ll merely help ensure that Barr goes to prison for a long time once Trump is gone, as Trump’s allies continue to pursue pointless antics in the name of pleasing an increasingly delusional Trump.

The moment in 🦅 Fiona Hill’s testimony that’s going to come back to bite Donald Trump

Bill Palmer | 7:45 pm EST November 21, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

Every dystopian thriller movie has that one rogue character whose villainous actions make no logical sense to the protagonist. Then comes the moment where the protagonist learns that the rogue character is actually doing the ugly bidding of more powerful characters, and it all makes sense. This brings us to Fiona Hill and Gordon Sondland.

Fiona Hill publicly testified today that she angrily confronted Gordon Sondland, confused by his villainous actions, when she thought that he was playing games with U.S. policy toward Ukraine simply because he was a mischievous idiot. That’s when Sondland tried to defend himself by explaining that his orders were coming from people at the top, like Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo. That’s when she realized that Sondland hadn’t gone rogue; the entire Trump administration was rogue.

This helps shatter any notion that Gordon Sondland, or for that matter Rudy Giuliani, was merely an out of control freelancer who was causing needless trouble behind Donald Trump’s back. The prevailing narrative will now be that Donald Trump and his entire top brass were carrying out this criminally anti-American plot in coordinated fashion – and they were hiding it from people like Fiona Hill and a few other honest people because they knew it was wrong.

2-minute recap of 24+ hours of 🦅 hearings
« Reply #208 on: November 23, 2019, 02:29:57 pm »

November 23, 2019

2-minute recap of 24+ hours of 🦅 hearings

Impeachment continued to build momentum in Washington, D.C. this week thanks to impeachment supporters who made calls, sent emails, and took to the streets last month. In October, impeachment supporters attended and asked questions about impeachment at more than 137 town halls. In November, Congress has taken notice. We’ve now heard from multiple key witnesses who are confirming some of the most damning facts about Trump’s use of military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in our elections.

If you didn’t catch all 24+ hours of this week’s public impeachment hearings or need a 2-minute summary, here are the key takeaways:

Tuesday, November 19th:

► Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman testified that he was so disturbed by Trump’s July 25th call that he immediately brought his concerns to the NSC lawyers, and he confirmed that Amb. Sondland raised politically motivated investigations to the Ukrainian delegation in a meeting John Bolton was forced to cut short. He also confirmed that no one supported Trump’s inexplicable decision to freeze military aid to Ukraine.

► Jennifer Williams pointed out an omission in the “transcript” of the July 25th phone call that the White House released. It failed to include mentions of Burisma, which is evidence of a coverup on the part of the Administration.

► Kurt Volker made it clear that there was and remains no evidence that Joe Biden acted improperly in Ukraine. The former Vice President did not try to shut down an investigation into his son’s company and Volker says that Trump’s attempts to launch an investigation into Burisma were baseless.

► Tim Morrison testified that he understood clearly, from conversations with Ambassador Sondland, that Zelensky had to announce an investigation into Trump’s political rival in order to receive the congressionally approved foreign aid.

Wednesday, November 20th:

► Ambassador Gordon Sondland declared, in no uncertain terms, that there was a quid pro quo between this administration and Ukraine. He also makes it clear that this was not just a case of a few bad actors. Those at the highest level, including Secretary Pompeo and Trump, knew about this corrupt deal.

► Laura Cooper confirmed the timeline. In direct contradiction of a Republican talking point, Cooper testified that Ukranian officials knew about the hold on security assistance just hours after the July 25th phone call.

► David Hale, one of the Republicans’ own witnesses, testified that withholding aid to a desperate ally is “unusual,” “completely inappropriate,” and just plain “wrong.”

Thursday, November 21st:

► Dr. Fiona Hill testified that the Ukraine pressure campaign was a "domestic political errand" that had nothing to do with corruption in Ukraine. She also pointed out that furthering conspiracies about the 2016 election to distract from Trump’s bad actions only helps Putin.

► David Holmes testified that “the security assistance hold was likely intended by the president either as an expression of dissatisfaction with the Ukrainians who had not yet agreed to the Burisma/Biden investigation or as an effort to increase the pressure on them to do so.”

So what did we learn this week? Witnesses confirmed that President Trump:

Pushed Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 elections.

Used US military aid and a visit to the White House to bribe and extort a foreign government into digging up dirt on his personal political opponent.

Tried to cover it up.

If the average person did this, they’d go to jail.

Here’s what we can do to ensure Congress holds Trump accountable: Visit impeachnow.org to find an event in your community and remind Congress that nobody is above the law.
