They’ll blanch, huh?

You mean it’s possible for Trump’s enablers to be whiter than they already are?

That should be interesting.

Clearly, Republicans are trying to cement in Americans’ minds the idea that this is all just an illegitimate, one-sided circus that’s so, so very unfair. The tactic will probably work with some. But more inconvenient truths are coming, and I, for one, can’t wait.

Trump will NOT "serve" a second term
« Reply #121 on: October 27, 2019, 05:05:39 pm »

👍 Surly,
That is an ineresting article you posted covering the Intelligencer interview with Steve Schmidt. I read it carefully. Steve Schmidt clearly understands the Trumpism problem destroying the fabric of American society and government.

Quote
My perspective is that the Republican Party is profoundly corrupted by Donald Trump and it has been corrupted by a tolerance for all and any type of amoral and immoral behavior. Tolerance for astounding levels of corruption and exposure of hypocrisy from the religious far-right leaders like Falwell, to everybody who screamed and shouted about some perfidious act that Obama or the Clintons allegedly committed. Trump has remade the Republican Party into an isolationist, grievance-driven, resentment-driven political party. The party looks like what it might have looked like if George Wallace had captured its nomination and become president. But nobody should underestimate Trump’s capacity to destroy the Democratic Party as an institution.

In the above paragraph, though Schmidt, being a staunch CAPITALIST, will not admit it, is the correct underlying premise that the REASON Trump has the very real capacity to destroy the Democratic Party as an institution, is that the Democratic Party LEADERSHIP is ALSO guilty of bought and paid for tolerance for all and any type of amoral and immoral behavior.

IOW, while accurately defining the situation, Schmidt fails to see that the solution lies in the wholesale rejection of bought and paid for tolerance for all and any type of amoral and immoral behavior.

The "Capitalism good, Socialism bad" erroneous assumption Schmidt has of the world view of most of the American electorate is what causes him to give Mr. Trump and his wrecking crew more persuasive power than they actually have to influence voters. Schmidt thinks the MONEY "advantage" that Trump has is the main factor. Again, that is a failing based on the "Money is IT" flawed Capitalist world view.

Consequently, Schmidt views the 2020 election like a "close" horse race between the Democratic Candidate and Trump.

He is wrong.

I'm going to tell you right now that Trump will NOT "serve" (a verb that never did apply to Trump - he never serves anybody but himself) a second term. And yeah, as trite and naive as it sounds, the reason he is going away is BECAUSE the overwhelming majority of the American voting public have realized, with no room for doubt whatsoever, that our government, like the GOP, has been profoundly corrupted by Donald Trump's EMBRACE, never mind "tolerance", for all and any type of amoral and immoral behavior.

Yeah, the leadership at the Democratic Party (DLC) does not get that. That is why Sanders has a much higher chance of being their candidate than they realize. The DLC, like Schmidt, ALSO cannot see past their "Money is IT" flawed Capitalist world view.

All that said, the Republicans are not totally blind to the threat from a public that polls positively on any and all expansions of U.S. "socialist" programs. They know their Orange Fascist 🦀 Hero is on the ropes. So, knowing Trump cannot win fairly, their mens rea modus operandi will be in-our-faces voter suppression like nothing this country has ever seen before.

THAT is not going to work either!

Yes, they also have a plan for that eventuality: Trump will cancel the election with an executive order based on "National Security"...

And then Trump will be forced to leave. The uproar will be so massive that he will have no choice. He will NOT be able to "walk it back". He will be unceremoniously escorted out of the White House and taken to a "secure location" (i.e. imprisoned with ZERO access to outside communication) pending the final vote count.

ANY Supreme Court Fascist that tries to protest will be quietly read the "we will impeach your ass PRONTO if you do not STFU NOW" riot act by some Congressional heavies.

Wishful thinking? That's what Schmidt thinks. Like I said before, he is wrong.

He forgot that DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST Sanders would have beat Trump in a LANDSLIDE in 2016, had the DLC not rigged the nomination for Hillary Rodham Clinton.

He forgot that Trump got people to vote for him MOSTLY because he LIED about DEFENDING "SOCIALIST" PROGRAMS like Medicare, Social Security AND Unemployment Compensation. The people HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN WHO LIED TO THEM. All the ads on Fox News and Facebook claiming otherwise will not change the day to day GUTTED Government SAFETY NET SOCIAL PROGRAMS REALITY those people, thanks to Trump doing the EXACT OPPOSITE of what he promised, are cruelly forced to live with so Trump can further enrich himself and his 1% greedball pals.

Trump would NOT have "won" with just the racist (and evangelical, but I repeat myself) voters. In addition to the Russian successful election rigging fun and games, Schmidt forgets that the DLC GAVE TRUMP THAT ELECTION!

Diplomat 🦅 who tried to quash smear campaign against colleague to testify in Trump impeachment inquiry

Last edited Sat Oct 26, 2019, 11:40 AM - Edit history (1)

Source: Washington Post

By
Carol Morello

Philip Reeker, a senior State Department official who tried to counteract a campaign of falsehoods that undermined the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, is expected to testify before House impeachment investigators Saturday.

Reeker, who heads the team of diplomats specializing in European affairs, is the latest Trump administration official scheduled to appear behind closed doors despite a White House edict that no government employees cooperate. Based on previously released accounts, he can be expected to provide a limited but critical piece of the back story involving an informal endeavor to prod Ukrainian officials to investigate former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

In March, Reeker was selected as acting assistant secretary in charge of the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. As head of the bureau that dealt with Ukraine, Reeker was nominally in charge of policy for the country. In reality, the policy was being steered by political appointees and by Rudolph W. Giuliani, President Trump’s personal attorney, according to previous testimony given during the impeachment probe.

A crisis was already brewing, in the form of rumors and conspiracy theories targeting Marie Yovanovitch, many being pushed by Giuliani. Highly regarded among her fellow diplomats, Yovanovitch was then the U.S. ambassador in Kyiv. State Department officials considered baseless the roiling questions being raised among conservative U.S. media about her loyalty and honesty. They began suggesting ways to defend her, both internally and publicly.

disciplining OLC lawyers for the bullshit they cause

Congress only received the complaint on September 25, an illegal delay of 23 days, during which time 🦀 Trump released the withheld funds and had a meeting with a much-weakened Zelensky, to say nothing of whatever meetings 😈 Rudy and  👹 Bill Barr had in the interim.

Quote
Thus far, the American public has had little success at disciplining OLC lawyers for the bullshit they cause (though even courts are inching closer to doing so). This letter seems, to me, like the first step in an attempt by Horowitz to be able to do so.

“LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP!” – Donald Trump just got a huge taste of his own medicine

Bill Palmer | 10:16 pm EDT October 27, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

Facebook ShareTwitter ShareEmail this articlePrint Article

Donald Trump did a very stupid thing on Sunday evening: he attended a public event that wasn’t populated solely by his own deranged and drooling fans. Trump attended a World Series game at Nationals Park in Washington DC, and to say that it didn’t go well for him would be an understatement. In fact he got a rather vicious taste of his own medicine.

Trump and underlings have spent years asserting that Hillary Clinton should go to prison for using the wrong email or some such nonsense, and they’ve been known to chant “Lock her up!” accordingly. Some of the Trump people who helped get that chant off the ground, such as Michael Flynn, are in fact now being locked up themselves. Trump is now being impeached for a criminal scandal, and the World Series decided to show him exactly how they feel about him. Check out this video of the crowd loudly chanting “Lock him up!”:

President Trump was booed loudly by the fans at Nats Park when he was shown on the big screen.
Then came a 🔊 loud chant: “Lock him up.” @wusa9  pic.twitter.com/LBbgSAHd6k

— Adam Longo (@adamlongoTV) October 28, 2019

That’s right, the crowd at the World Series let Donald Trump know exactly how they feel about him. Considering there’s a New York grand jury that’s actively seeking to criminally indict Trump on state charges as we speak, and that grand jury just won a key appeals court ruling over its subpoena of Trump’s tax returns, the baseball crowd may end up getting its wish.

The idiot wasn’t even invited!

Bill Palmer | 9:09 am EDT October 28, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

Last night Donald Trump came face to face with a humiliating dose of reality, and managed to create an utterly terrible PR moment for himself, when he attended a World Series game in Washington DC. When his face was shown on the screen at the stadium, not only was he loudly booed, the crowd also loudly chanted “Lock him up!” Now it turns out the whole thing was even worse for Trump than we knew.

If you’re wondering why the Washington Nationals baseball team would have wanted Donald Trump at their World Series game when their fan base clearly hates the guy, it turns out they didn’t want him there. Or at least they didn’t invite him to be there. The Washington Post says the idiot just decided to attend the game without a formal invitation from the team. If you missed the “Lock Him Up” chant, here’s the video:

President Trump was booed loudly by the fans at Nats Park when he was shown on the big screen.
Then came a 🔊 loud chant: “Lock him up.” @wusa9  pic.twitter.com/LBbgSAHd6k

— Adam Longo (@adamlongoTV) October 28, 2019

This means that Donald Trump didn’t make the mistake of accepting an ill-fated invitation to a public event where he should have known he’d get booed; he made a point of showing up uninvited to a public event where he was sure to get booed. In sports terminology that’s called an “unforced error.” Now today’s media coverage will be about Trump getting greeted with a “Lock Him Up” chant at the World Series, driving home the point about just what a despised criminal he is.

Nancy Pelosi says she’s taking Donald 🦀 Trump’s impeachment to the next level
Bill Palmer | 4:04 pm EDT October 28, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

Over the past couple weeks the House impeachment inquiry has carried out the necessary process of interviewing witnesses in private, as any valid criminal investigative process would, in order to prevent any witness coordination and minimize witness intimidation. The question has been when this phase of impeachment would end, and where it will go next. Now Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is delivering answers.

Speaker Pelosi has sent a letter to House members explaining what happens next. The lengthy letter, obtained by Politico, says this in part: “This week, we will bring a resolution to the Floor that affirms the ongoing, existing investigation that is currently being conducted by our committees as part of this impeachment inquiry … This resolution establishes the procedure for hearings that are open to the American people, authorizes disclosure of deposition transcripts, outlines procedures to transfer evidence to the Judiciary Committee as it considers potential articles of impeachment, and sets forth due process rights for the President and his Counsel.”

So where does this get us? It means House Democrats are about to take everything public. Transcripts of the existing testimony will be released. Upcoming hearings will be televised. The closed-door phase of impeachment is about to end, and the House will begin taking its impeachment argument directly to the public. To be clear, even though the resolution will be voted on this week (MSNBC says Thursday), this next phase won’t necessarily begin this week; the current round of closed-door witness testimony isn’t quite over yet.

What’s remarkable is that, based solely on what’s surfaced in the media thus far about Donald Trump’s recent scandals, the polls say that a growing majority of Americans already think Trump should be impeached and removed from office. This number should climb even higher once the bulk of the evidence and testimony against Trump soon becomes public.

What 🦅 Pelosi ✨ is up to with Thursday’s impeachment vote

SNIPPET:

Pelosi continued, “This week, we will bring a resolution to the Floor that affirms the ongoing, existing investigation that is currently being conducted by our committees as part of this impeachment inquiry, including all requests for documents, subpoenas for records and testimony, and any other investigative steps previously taken or to be taken as part of this investigation.” She adds that this will set out the procedure “for hearings that are open to the American people, authorizes the disclosure of deposition transcripts, outlines procedures to transfer evidence to the Judiciary Committee as it considers potential articles of impeachment, and sets forth due process rights for the President and his Counsel.”

She says, “We are taking this step to eliminate any doubt as to whether the Trump Administration may withhold documents, prevent witness testimony, disregard duly authorized subpoenas, or continue obstructing the House of Representatives.”

So why bring this up now, especially after a court held in Democrats’ favor? One possibility is that in preparing an article of impeachment on obstruction of Congress, Pelosi does not want to leave a crack open whereby 🦀 Trump’s lawyers would say, well, he had a good-faith belief the impeachment process was not officially underway.

Constitutional scholar Laurence Tribe 👍 approves of Pelosi’s move. “This resolution makes perfect sense now that the House leadership has wisely decided to forgo further judicial jockeying and to move expeditiously to public hearings,” he argues. “Calling the Trump administration’s bluff this way will make it clear that the continued stonewalling of the administration — and of those current and former officials who use the administration’s gag order as an excuse for seeking what amount to advisory judicial opinions on whether to comply with congressional subpoenas — is just a stalling tactic, not a good-faith effort to resolve conflicting obligations when confronted with a subpoena from Congress and a directive from the White House to defy that subpoena.”

Tribe also underscores that the resolution does not “authorize” impeachment but instead “affirms” it is underway. He says, “By taking that course, the speaker smartly avoids conceding that there was any infirmity in the inquiry prior to this authorization vote.”

After the call, Vindman attempted to add key details of the call to the official transcript, but was rebuffed by the White House, which tried to hide the very existence of the call on a top-secret computer server (despite the fact that, according to Trump on Twitter, the call was “perfect”).

Not Even 🦀 Trump's Smear Machine Can Invalidate Vindman's Testimony

WILLIAM RIVERS PITT, TRUTHOUT

Conservatives have proven themselves perfectly willing to slag military veterans when it has suited their purposes. Alexander Vindman's testimony on Tuesday was extraordinarily damaging to Trump, yet when Trump and his network news defenders revved up the smear machine, elected Republicans refused to toe the line. Doing so did not suit their purposes. The power of unrestrained shamelessness may have finally found its limits.

The relationship between Rudy Giuliani and his Ukraine co-conspirators Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman is so strange and surreal in so many ways, everyone involved is still trying to get to the bottom of it. Last week Palmer Report pointed out that everyone involved – us included – was wrong when it came to one of the initial presumptions. Tonight, Rachel Maddow just hit on the same thing.

When Parnas and Fruman were arrested, we all just assumed that they were Rudy Giuliani’s underlings. After all, he’s a major political figure and the personal attorney to the President of the United States, and they were just two unknowns who appeared to be the ones doing the dirty work. They were the henchmen and Rudy was the boss, right? Except the money trail says the opposite.

Rudy Giuliani has admitted that he was paid half a million dollars by Lev Parnas’ company Fraud Guarantee. Bosses are not generally on the payrolls of their underlings. This strongly suggested that Rudy was actually working for Parnas. When you throw in the fact that Parnas is in turn working for Kremlin oligarch Dmitry Firtash, it seems to point to Vladimir Putin and his people funding the entire Trump-Ukraine plot, and Rudy just being a cog in the machine.

Rachel Maddow pointed out all of this on the air tonight, and made a point of asking who was working for whom when it came to Rudy Giuliani and his henchmen. It’s important that this question be given the proper attention, not just because the answer can properly frame Rudy’s role in this international criminal plot, but also because the money trail could expose that the Kremlin has been behind this entire Trump-Ukraine plot all along.
