Could Trump use his presidency as a bargaining tool to keep himself and his children from facing the consequences of their crimes

or do the American people want to see Donald Trump impeached and convicted?

Was the NRA working for Russia?

Senator Ron Wyden joins the Thom Hartmann Program to expose the NRA's connection to the Russian government and Russian Oligarchs.

What is the connection between the NRA, the Republican Party, and Russia? Why was there access to the US political system? The NRA needs to be investigated up by the IRS and their tax-exempt status, according to Senator Ron Wyden.

Senator Ron Wyden is co-chair of the Whistle-blower Caucus and says that the current whistleblower is very credible on the Trump call with the President of Ukraine.

The whistleblower showed, beyond a doubt, that what we have been saying at DCReport from the get-go is spot on: Donald is disloyal to America. He has to be. Donald is loyal only to Donald.

History will record that Trump’s downfall began not with his imagined cabal of “deep state” enemies, but with a single honest soul, a mere cog in the national security machine.

Even timid creatures like Mitt Romney have declared themselves “troubled” by Trump’s soliciting Ukrainian interference in our 2020 election. Still, most Republican officeholders say nothing.

I'm calling on the GOP to stop Trump's filthy talk of whistleblowers being spies & using mob language implying they should be killed. Impeachment is not good enough for Trump. He needs to be imprisoned & placed in solitary confinement . But for now, impeachment is the imperative.

The statement by the powerful Iowa senator did not mention Trump's attacks on the whistleblower.

By Dareh Gregorian

A top Republican senator Tuesday defended the whistleblower at the center of the Democrats' impeachment inquiry following repeated attacks from President Donald Trump.

"This person appears to have followed the whistleblower protection laws and ought to be heard out and protected. We should always work to respect whistleblowers’ requests for confidentiality," Sen. Chuck Grassley, head of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, said in a statement.

The Iowa Republican did not mention Trump by name, but said, "No one should be making judgments or pronouncements without hearing from the whistleblower first and carefully following up on the facts. Uninformed speculation wielded by politicians or media commentators as a partisan weapon is counterproductive and doesn’t serve the country."

Trump and some of his allies, including Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and South Carolina Sen. Lindsay Graham, have said the identity of the intelligence community whistleblower whose complaint sparked the House's impeachment inquiry into the president should be made public, even though it's protected under whistleblower laws that Grassley helped write.

Support for impeaching Trump hits new high 👍

Support for impeaching 🦀 Trump hits new high
Source: Politico

By STEVEN SHEPARD
10/02/2019 05:00 AM EDT

A batch of recent polling confirms the Democratic impeachment push is gaining steam — including a new POLITICO/Morning Consult survey that shows for the first time that more voters support than oppose proceedings to remove Trump from office. The uptick is primarily among Democrats, as Republican voters surveyed continue to have Trump's back.

In the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, 46 percent of voters said Congress should begin impeachment proceedings vs. 43 percent who said they should not. Eleven percent had no opinion. That support represented a 3-point bump from last week, when voters were evenly split.

The new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll comes as at least a half-dozen other media outlets have released surveys showing support for impeachment rising. The polls suggest that Democrats are gaining support for the impeachment inquiry as the Ukraine scandal unspools. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had resisted escalating the House’s investigations of Trump because of the political risks, but the latest surveys suggest the party is unlikely to bleed support from Democratic voters over the decision to challenge Trump head-on.

Still, the move isn’t without risk. The percentage of voters who disapprove of Trump’s job performance in the latest poll, 56 percent, still exceeds the 46 percent who think Congress should begin impeachment proceedings to remove him, or the 51 percent who say they support the current impeachment inquiry — a step short of actual impeachment proceedings. Those findings indicate that there is a slice of moderate voters who disapprove of Trump but think Democrats are going too far.

A Trump hotel mystery: Giant reservations followed by empty rooms
Source: Politico

House investigators are looking into an allegation that groups — including at least one foreign government — tried to ingratiate themselves to President Donald Trump by booking rooms at his hotels but never staying in them.

It’s a previously unreported part of a broader examination by the House Oversight Committee, included in the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, into whether Trump broke the law by accepting money from U.S. or foreign governments at his properties.

“Now we’re looking at near raw bribery,” said Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), a House Oversight Committee member who chairs the subcommittee with jurisdiction over Trump’s hotel in Washington. “That was the risk from day one — foreign governments and others trying to seek favor because we know Trump 💵 pays attention to this.... It’s an obvious attempt to curry favor with him.”

The investigation began after the committee received information that two entities — a trade association and a foreign government — booked a large quantity of rooms but only used a fraction of them, according to a person familiar with the allegation who isn't authorized to speak for the committee.

Bill Barr Ended Bush's Prosecution: Will He Stop 🦀 Trump's Impeachment?

Our Republic is at Risk

We just learned that attorney general Bill Barr, who engineered the 1992 cover up of Iran Contra on behalf of Reagan and Bush, was in Italy last week trying to find evidence that the Mueller investigation, the FBI, and US intelligence agencies were corrupted by the Clinton campaign.

Meanwhile, Mike Pompeo‘s state department has notified dozens of people who sent emails to Hillary Clinton that their emails have been retroactively classified, and they may therefore be subject to criminal action, meaning Trump is now talking about prosecuting and locking up Hillary Clinton.

We have stepped fully through the Looking Glass. Trump, the Murdoch family with Fox News, and bizarre right wing sites funded by cranky billionaires are leading a small but well armed group of Americans toward what Trump himself calls a “Civil War.“

This is all extraordinarily dangerous, In ways we have not seen in this country since the 1850s.

If Republican lawmakers do not step up and stop this, our country may well be torn apart in almost unimaginable ways.

It's there Sanctions, Stupid
« Reply #56 on: October 04, 2019, 08:46:27 am »
It's All About the Sanctions

I watched Rachel Maddow interview Ambassador McFaul this evening, and a number of things about this whole unholy mess became clear. Let me see if I can lay it out:

In 2014, Russia invades the Crimea. In response, Obama and the EU impose sanctions and kick Russia out of the G8 (not G7).
In July 2016, Russian operatives sit down with the Trump campaign to discuss lifting sanctions.
In 2016, Russia interferes with the US elections. In response, Obama imposes more sanctions.
Russia’s economy is not very robust, and the sanctions really bite. In particular, they hurt Putin and some of the people whose support he needs to stay in power.
During the transition, incoming NSA Flynn talks to the Russians about lifting sanctions.
After Trump is sworn in, he tries to get the sanctions lifted, but is balked by Congress.
Now, add in what we’ve been learning this week:

Trump was pressuring the Ukraine government to investigate Crowdstrike, the company which had helped expose Russia’s hacking of the DNC.
Trump also claimed the DNC server was being hidden somewhere in Ukraine.
Trump also urges Zelensky to make peace with Russia on Putin’s terms. (He did it again at their meeting, and the look on Zelensky’s face was priceless.)
Barr travels to England, Italy, and other places trying to get countries to reopen whether Russia really did interfere in 2016.
Barr also urges Trump to get Australia to look into their diplomat’s breaking the story that the Trump campaign was coordinating with Russia.
Put all that together, and here’s what it’s shaping up to be:

Putin desperately wants the sanctions lifted. His economy and his political survival depend on it.
The original sanctions were put in place to punish Putin for taking over Crimea, so if Ukraine makes peace with Russia, Trump can argue there’s no more need for those sanctions.
The second set of sanctions followed Putin’s interference in our 2016 election. If Trump can show that it wasn’t Russia (but maybe Ukraine or maybe some rogue actors based in Ukraine), he can claim that the sanctions were a mistake all along and they should be lifted.
All that is in addition to the benefits Trump personally gets out of it:

He can “prove” he won the election without Russia’s help. (That he is trying to do this by showing someone else helped him instead just show you don’t understand Trumplogic™.)
He gets dirt on his most likely opponent.
Most important, he satisfies the puppet master, who will now help get him another term (and also not put polonium in his diet coke).

I use anyone interested I this topic to review the transcript of the Rachel Maddow show for 9/30. She has just released a book that includes, among other things, a section on Dmitry Firtash, a Russian oligarch who gets paid on every unit of hydrocarbons that transits through Ukraine. And she bottom-lines the end game for Putin and his Manchurian "President."

http://www.msnbc.com/transcripts/rachel-maddow-show/2019-09-30

Quote
Russia is sanctioned for what they did in Ukraine.  Trump is apparently working to undo that so those sanctions can be dropped.  They also interfered with our elections and have been sanctioned for that.  Trump is also apparently working very hard to undo that.

Trump is working very hard on both of those things.  Yes, he`s trying to get help for 2020, but those two things about Russia invading Ukraine and Russia helping him get elected, he`s working on those just as intently.

And both of those things have bank shot, knock on, indirect benefit to him in terms of helping his reputation for how he got elected, but both of those things have direct benefit to Russia because they need those sanctions dropped desperately, because their economy cannot function with those sanctions in place.

Dropping those sanctions is the most important foreign policy goal that Russia has.  And Trump is working double time to get it done before he gets impeached.

After the Laughter

By Crashing Vor

Americans who believe their country stands for more than the venal impulses of a 🍊🐒 failed real-estate developer were understandably outraged at Mr. Putin’s mocking response to a reporter’s question about Russian interference in the 2020 elections.

🐻 "I'll tell you a secret - 😈 yes, we'll definitely do this to cheer you up over there once and for all,"

The “joke” was so outrageous and offensive to those who believe in democratic ideals that many missed the Russian president’s comment a moment later:

Quote
Putin said he would not mind if his phone calls with Trump were published and that, because of his intelligence background, he always assumed that his words could potentially be published whenever he speaks.

"I haven't done the work I do now my entire life and my previous experience taught me that any conversation can be published," Putin, who once worked for the KGB, said.

mobile.reuters.com/...
The first, widely-discussed, jab was general trolling, something at which Mr. Putin is much better at than his American counterpart.

The second statement was a specific message for an audience of 🍊🐒 one.

I assume the news agencies’ interpreters gave a reasonably faithful version of Putin’s words, but so much of the actual, quite personal message was lost in translation. If I may, I’d like to offer my own version:

”Yo, dumbass. I can break you in a second, because of your uncontrollable mouth. Go ahead, read the transcripts. I never said anything explicit, because I actually know how governments, and successful criminal organizations, work. You, on the other hand, are a wannabe movie gangster who thinks talking tough makes the man tough. And because you’re not really tough at all, you can’t stop talking.”

Putin gives exactly no f u c k s whether his conversations with the Hamburdler go public. And he knows his 🍊🐒 pet can’t afford such insouciance.

Yes, his mocking laughter at us rankled. But I imagine his message to his 🍊🐒 vassal probably evoked a rather different response.

Agelbert NOTE: I never in a 100 years would have thought the neocon Susan Rice would say anything I agreed with. BUT, she is 1000% RIGHT in everything she says here:

SNIPPET:

... Susan Rice breaks down what Trump has done and makes it simple.

Trump is asking China to manufacture dirt on Joe and Hunter Biden for his own political gain.
Trump has signalled to the Chinese he is willing to make a trade deal that benefits China as long as the Chinese produce dirt on Joe and Hunter Biden.
This is a sellout for all the manufacturers and FARMERS who have suffered because of Trump’s tariffs on China.
Trump is direct threat to our democracy.
