Energy Intensity Falls in Key Countries Developing nations’ energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product has
fallen by 40 percent since the 1990s, a rate significantly faster than that of developed nations.
In global terms, according to a report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, worldwide energy intensity has dropped by nearly a third,
led by increases in energy efficiency. China cut its energy intensity by 20 percent between 2006 and 2010.
Another
study about the United States shows declining carbon dioxide emissions from power plants, due to decline of coal use and increased energy efficiency.
