For new arrivals: The Global Moderator here, Surly1, also manages the Doomstead Diner Facebook Page.  Be sure and check it out for interesting and thought provoking articles. Surly1 is a wordsmith with a vocabulary and such skill at explaining complex subjects in succinct and accurate terms that just reading his comments can save you hours of reading. I highly recommend this Occupy Veteran's prose and linked stories.

Surly1 is a man of peace, but as his handle implies, don't take lightly his views or opinions. He has a lifetime of experience at seriously thinking about what ails Homo Sap and how to go about, if such a thing is possible at this late date, improving the lot of mankind.

Surly1's message to the Facebook Page Readers:
"Welcome to the Doomstead Diner, a hub for discussion and information pertaining to the ongoing Economic Collapse of the Industrial Economy." plus other copy from here. I really try to mirror the tone and tenor of this place and its denizens.

I'm with you on that. Your forum, your rules.

RE outdid himself with this one. I like it...

Hi AG,

In re this-

You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or you have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material.

This would seem to preclude cross-posting articles from most other websites unless they expressly post a Creative Commons license, yes? Am I understanding your intent correctly?

Nice forum.

Yes, I read that bit of boilerplate from the registration and was uncomfortable with it as well. Consequently I placed large bold font on the part I am mainly concerned with... ;D

According to something I learned long ago in a course in law as part of a business administration course of study back in the 1970s, in the USA, laws are challenged by testing them.  ;D

I asked our prof. Do you mean to say I just can't claim a law is unconstitutional or wrong somehow? He said, "Not unless you are a legislator writing to change the law. In order for a common citizen to get a law changed, they must "test" (break) the law, be taken to court and have the courts rule in your favor. That forms Stari Decicis (case law) that is then used as a precedent to ignore the law legally."  ;D

The bottom line Vox Populi, Vox Dei (the voice of the people is the voice of God for the courts) is that certain laws are not enforceable...  ;D

Hello everyone. I have arrived here by the good graces of RE from the Doomstead Diner and hope to provide stimulating information on topics such as energy, innovations, truth and consequences.

I, A. G. Gelbert,  will be the administrator.

I hope all who come can argue about everything under the sun and anything else they think of but I just ask you to keep it rational.

Here are the rules for those who didn't read them well when they registered.

You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or you have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also forbidden on this forum.

With this user account you are about to register, you agree to never give your password out to another person except an administrator, for your protection and for validity reasons.
