another thing sloger didnt say is the black box is reported damaged so often these days, you would think they were never designed to withstand crashes.

That comment you made got me to take another look at the crash site picture. And looky here what I came up with.
You will get a kick out of this. I am very good at putting puzzles together when I have easy color schemes to guide me.
Picture taken in 2014 of the A320 in the crash seen below. Notice that a large part of the vertical stabilizer is intact. That white part you see is more a part of the tail boom on the empennage than the vertical stabilizer. Just beneath that is where the BLACK BOXES (
much more robust than a vertical stabilizer) were located when the aircraft was in one piece...
