Remember the Maine. That's my first response. then I found Jim Wright wrote this:

Remember The Maine

SNIPPET:

Back around to the questions we should be asking.
To the questions that the press should be asking.
To the questions our our leaders should be loudly asking right now.
To the questions our intelligence community should be working to answer in detail.

AGELBERT: I lined out those questions above because they ASS-U-ME some integrity in our leaders, press and government. That is like expecting Sara Sanders to be "truth based".

Who benefits?
AGELBERT:THE M.I.C. HYDROCARBON HELLSPAWN WAR PROFITEERING MURDER AND MAYHEM BUSINESS MODEL, PERIOD, FULL STOP. The other questions, which the media will never address :-X (except in Orwellian fashion in order to blame the victim), are all applicable derivatives of CUI BONO.
Who benefits from attacks on these particular targets?
Who has the capability to carry out these attacks. Who has the ability to carry out an attack on oil tankers, underway at sea, in one of the most heavily trafficked sea lanes and thus one of the most heavily surveilled areas in the world, on ships that are specifically on the lookout for such an attack.
Who can carry out that attack and do so in such a manner that the methodology and origin are not immediately apparent?
Who has that capability?
Not only has that capability, but also believes they will directly benefit from a war between Iran and the rest of the world.
Has the capability, is willing to use it, wants a war, and will benefit from the results even if later reveled -- starting with a massive increase in the price of oil.

Now, you tell me: who is that?

My fellow Americans, as President and Commander in Chief, it is my duty to the American people to report that renewed hostile actions against United States ships on the high seas in the Gulf of Tonkin have today required me to order the military forces of the United States to take action in reply -- President Lyndon Johnson, August 4, 1964, addressing the nation following two attacks by North Vietnamese gunboats on the American warship USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin.
Whereas these attackers are part of a deliberate and systematic campaign of aggression that the Communist regime in North Vietnam has been waging against its neighbors and the nations joined with them in the collective defense of their freedom -- Tonkin Gulf Resolution, August 7, 1964, the US resolution which, as a result of the North Vietnamese attacks on USS Maddox, led directly to the Vietnam War.

In 2005, records from the Maddox Incident were declassified, revealing that in the first attack on USS Maddox, the US warship was in fact the aggressor and fired on North Vietnamese vessels first.
The second attack never actually happened at all.

Yep.

This video covers a lot of False Flag, ethics free 'fun and games' territory:

The only analysis that I would add, that gives some hope to people of good will, is the fact that ever since the 2003 Bush (and his wrecking crew) War Crime Atrocity against Iraq, an atrocity perpetrated with lies so transparent that literally millions of people tried, but failed, to stop said war for oil to take place, the United States of America LOST the moral high ground (that our propaganda machine had successfully spoon fed to most of the us for over a century). From 2003 to the present, despite undending disingenious efforts by the media water carriers for the M.I.C. to recover this lost moral high ground, these evil bastards have FAILED.

Trump (and Israel) will NEVER convince the American public that a war with Iran is "justified".

Nevertheless, they may go to great lengths (e.g. 9/11 style false flag massive attack on Israel) to get it done while we peace loving folks are paralyzed by cognitive dissonance.

Let us picture that scenario:

War Day minus one month: Israel screams that thei Iranians want to wipe them out. The NYT sides with Israel. The U.S. is portrayed in the media as rushing to the defense of our ally, "beleaguered" Israel, the "only Democracy" in the Midddle East. Trump praises the NYT for "finally" telling the "truth".

War Day minus three weeks: Iran, knowing what that alligator tears propaganda circus pitch is really all about, remains silent but quickly prepares its military for all out war. They surreptitiously appeal to Russia and China to create an "incident" somewhere else on the planet to unnerve/distract Trump's M.I.C. wrecking crew (multiple front wars are the nightmare of all generals).

War Day minus two weeks: The U.S. sinks one of its own battleships in the Gulf of Oman with a cruise missle and blames Iran. The media demands an attack on Iran. Russia and/or China put into operation plans to stop the war.

War Day minus one week: Chinese soldiers capture a U.S. battleship in Hong Kong harbor, claiming the ship's crew is illegally "interfering" with Chinese politics in Hong Kong. Two American crewmembers are killed in a brief firefight. The rest are held for "questioning". Video of Chinese on U.S. Battleship goes viral. Chinese authorities state that crew and battleship will be returned to U.S. custody when the U.S. apologizes for its interference and stops the warmongering in the Middle East. Pentagon quietly screams at Trump that logistics cannot handle the Chinese and Iran thing simultaneously. Trump turns purple, refuses to change course, but says nothing publicly.

War Day minus 4 days week: Russian ship "accidentally" rams a U.S. aircraft carrier near Japan. Russia publicly apologizes but privately warns Trump that war with Iran is unacceptable. Pentagon notifies Trump that several Russian S-400 missile batteries have been moved to Iran in the last month AND that Russian nuclear forces went on alert this week. Trump gets the runs but refuses to change course, and says nothing publicly.

War Day: Hundreds of cruise missles are fired at Iran from several U.S. war ships, causing thousands of casualties. Iranian missles sink all those ships the same day, killing most crewmembers. Trump goes into hiding. Israel screams bloody murder. Russia and China go to full nuclear alert. WHY? Because the red line for them is Iran. If Iran goes down, they are next on the MIC's "to do" list.

War Day +2 days: Trump authorizes tactical nuclear weapons use against Iran. At least 12 tactical (about 20% of Hiroshima size) nukes are exploded on Iranian cities, NOT troops or harbors (This is for the MIC purpose of bringing a quick surrender). Iran does not surrender and screams that these attacks are heinous War Crimes.

War Day +3 days: Russian bombers attack remaining U.S. assets near Iran, using tactical nuclear weapons. U.S. fleet destroyed.

War Day +4 days: Trump dies of an (accidentally on purpose) heart attack and Pence, after being read the riot act by those who still have a brain in the Pentagon, AND a brief conversation on the hotline with Putin AND another one with XI, declares an immediate end to hostilities.

OR

War Day +4 days: Trump and his WRECKING CREW attack the Russian bombers with our fighters and our bombers drop a tactical nuke on a small Russian city.

War Day +5 days: Full scale nuclear war breaks out. You and I and every single person we know and love are all killed. Have a nice day.

Russia warns against ‘hasty conclusions’ about tanker incidents in Sea of Oman

Russia has warned against jumping to conclusions about a Thursday incident involving two oil tankers in the Sea of Oman, which the United States has claimed were attacks carried out by Iran.

“We consider it necessary to refrain from hasty conclusions,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Two large tankers were hit by explosions in the Sea of Oman — also called the Gulf of Oman — on Thursday. The tankers were identified as the Marshal Islands-flagged Front Altair and the Panama-flagged Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous.

Shortly after the two vessels sent out distress signals, an Iranian rescue ship rushed to their help and picked up all of the crew.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo quickly blamed Iran. President Donald Trump did the same on Friday. They claimed the ships hit a mine planted by Iran. This is while the Japanese operator of one of the tankers said it had been hit by “a flying object,” disputing the US account at least partially.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called for a thorough international investigation.

“We are concerned by tensions in the Gulf of Oman,” it said, urging all parties to show restraint.

Iran 👍 has strongly rejected the US allegation, calling the incident “suspicious.”

Meanwhile, Moscow thanked Iran for rescuing the 11 Russian crew members from one of the tankers.

Agelbert NOTE: Iran is telling the truth. The U.S. version of events is a bold faced LIE, PERIOD. NOW you know what those 🦍 1500 troops Trump sent a few weeks ago, to the Middle East to do "good things", are 😈 💥 DOING.

SNIPPET:

Quote
In a series of tweets on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the US allegations against Iran over the attacks on oil tankers in the Sea of Oman were part of "sabotage diplomacy" adopted by the "B Team," which he uses to refer to US National Security Adviser John Bolton, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Agelbert NOTE: It looks like China, like Russia, is already moving to try to get the U.S. to cancel its planned war crime against Iran. Good.

Agellbert NOTE: What Trump wants is plausible deniability when the really big false flag attack comes. This old trick of appearing friendly with a nation right before you stab said nation in the back is as old as NAZI Germany with Russia and pre-Pearl Harbor Japan with the USA. Iran 👍 is not falling for it. Don't YOU fall for it!

Seven Reasons To Be Highly Skeptical Of The Gulf Of Oman Incident

Authored by Caitlin Johnstone via Medium.com,

In a move that surprised exactly zero people, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has wasted no time scrambling to blame Iran for damage done to two sea vessels in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, citing exactly zero evidence.

SNIPPET:

4. Using false flags to start a war with Iran is already an established idea in the DC swamp.
Back in 2012 at a forum for the Washington Institute Of Near East Policy think tank, the group’s Director of Research Patrick Clawson openly talked about the possibility of using a false flag to provoke a war with Iran, citing the various ways the US has done exactly that with its previous wars.

“I frankly think that crisis initiation is really tough, and it’s very hard for me to see how the United States president can get us to war with Iran,” Clawson began.

5. The US State Department has already been running psyops to manipulate the public Iran narrative.
State Department officials admitted to Congressional staff at a closed-door meeting on Monday that a $1.5 million troll 😈 farm had gone “beyond the scope of its 😉 mandate”  by aggressively smearing American critics of the Trump administration’s Iran policy as propagandists for the Iranian government, according to a new report from The Independent. That “mandate” had reportedly consisted of “countering propaganda from Iran”, also known as conducting anti-Iran propaganda.

“Critics in Washington have gone further, saying that the programme resembled the type of troll farms used by autocratic regimes abroad,” says The Independent.

One woman 👹 behind the harassment campaign, a longtime Iranian-American activist, has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the State Department over the years to promote ‘freedom of expression and free access to information,’ 😉😈” the report reads.

Where Are the Skeptics as the Drums Roll for War with Iran?

June 14, 2019

Vijay Prashad challenges the media reality that Iran attacked the oil tankers, calling for a real investigation to uncover the truth

Story Transcript

MIKE POMPEO: It is the assessment of the United States Government that the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for the attacks that occurred in the Gulf of Oman today. This is only the latest in a series of attacks instigated by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its surrogates against American and allied interests, and they should be understood in the context of 40 years of unprovoked aggression against freedom-loving nations.

DONALD TRUMP: Iran did do it. And you know they did it because you saw the boat. I guess one of the mines didn’t explode and it’s probably got essentially Iran written all over it.

MARC STEINER: Welcome to The Real News. I’m Marc Steiner. It’s great to have you all with us.

So what is reality here? Did Iran remove those mines? Are we being set up for another war? Did Iran plan this attack in the first place? Why has the media not talked at all about U.S. stopping Iran’s oil exports unilaterally? And after the lies being told the American people that got us to invade Iraq, don’t we have the right to be really skeptical?

Well, we are joined by Vijay Prashad, who is Director of Tricontinental. And Vijay, welcome back. Always good to have you here on The Real News.

VIJAY PRASHAD: Thanks a lot, Marc.

MARC STEINER: So let’s talk about this. And I think I said this a bit before went on the air together, which is those of us in the media–no matter what media you are in this country–and others in this country, don’t we have a right to be skeptical of all this, given what drove us to have a war with Iraq on news that was not real?

VIJAY PRASHAD: It’s not just a question of the right to be skeptical. When the subject is about war or the possibility of war, it’s more than a right to be skeptical. I think there’s a necessity to be skeptical. Nobody wants this war. Iran doesn’t want this war, China doesn’t want this war, Russia doesn’t want this war. In fact, on the day after these accusations were made in Bishkek, the Shanghai Cooperative Organization, which is an organization that includes Iran, India, Pakistan, China, Russia, Central Asian Republics, and so on met. And most of these countries came out quite forcefully, and these are all neighbors of Iran in one way or the other, these Eurasian countries. They came out and said that they don’t want a war. So in this situation, it’s very important to ask why is the United States–without any forensic investigation–why is the United States immediately jumping on these incidents with the Norwegian and Japanese bankers and saying this was done by Iran? Why is the United States trying to find a provocation for war?

I mean, at this point, the media must ask questions. It’s not a question of being skeptical of anything a government says or doesn’t say. Here, when there’s a possibility of a war in a region which is already being torn apart, which will be torn further apart, I think it’s a necessity to ask about the evidence, to ask questions about the nature of the evidence; where did this come from? I mean, Marc, I’m very skeptical, especially given the fact that the CIA in 2017 created a group called the Iran Mission Center, run by Michael D’Andrea, whose purpose is to produce the intelligence for the war. I don’t know where this video came from of a small boat next to an oil tanker, because that oil tanker’s captain said quite decisively that he saw, or his crew saw, flying projectiles come and strike the ship, and not mines. So we have conflicting reports of what has happened. Conflicting reports require an investigation, not a rush to judgment.

MARC STEINER: Let’s watch for a moment what you just said. This is Mr. Katada, who owns the boat that was allegedly attacked. And he has a very different view than does President Trump and the others.

YUTAKA KATADA: The crew is saying that it was hit by a flying object. They’re saying that something came flying. To put a bomb on the side of the boat is something we are not considering.

MARC STEINER: So if you look at the footage–and I think we need to understand what that footage is about. And I am not an expert on small boats, and as you said to me before, neither are you an expert on small boats and large ships and what this really is. This really calls for a different kind of investigation. And so, let me just play this one little clip here I think is really important and then we can talk about what should be the response and how you get that response. This was this morning on National Public Radio on Morning Edition, where they interviewed Admiral Fallon, who used to be a head of Tricom. This is what he had to say, being interviewed on Morning Edition this morning.

WILLIAM FALLON: I believe there’s little doubt that that’s what it is. The U.S. vessel in the vicinity, one of Astorias, saw numerous IRGC boats ram each of the tankers that was attacked. But I think the only question, I’ve seen some speculation that this may be some kind of an independent action. I doubt that sincerely. I think this was something that was premeditated and it’s an escalatory step in a road to I’m not sure where, but certainly not headed anywhere in the right direction.

MARC STEINER: So the admiral says, “I doubt that,” that it was premeditated. But this is an example of, I think, media across the United States at the moment, which is very clearly saying Iran did this, and backing up what the Trump administration has said. So what would be your response to the admiral, what would be your response to Morning Edition playing this piece the way they did?

VIJAY PRASHAD: Well, first I would ask them where this footage came from. That’s, to me, of interest. I mean, any forensic observer who looks at these things carefully, they’ll ask for the provenance of the footage. I’d like to talk to the captain and crew of the Japanese vessel and ask them what the Iranian port was doing alongside. The Iranians have said that they sent small boats there to rescue people from these vessels. That is, I think, uncontested. The Japanese and Norwegians were brought off these ships by the Iranians, and some say by Americans. So this could very well be a rescue vessel. We need to have more people talking. Right now, Mike Pompeo has come out there with a very large fist that he’s banged on the table, and that very large fist has made a lot of noise and it’s defining the conversation.

I think one needs to talk to the Japanese. We need to hear from the Norwegians. We need to hear from the crew. Many of them are from the Philippines, some of them are from Russia. We need to take the testimony of these people, get a broad understanding of what happened before we rush into the view that this was a premeditated Iranian action. There is no political reason, by the way, for Iran to have done something like this. There’s one side of the issue is to see what happened; the other side is to see, what are the political ramifications? In other words, what’s the motive? Very important question asked by investigators. Iran has no motive right now to attack two tankers which were taking oil to Japan.

And the reason Iran has no motivation for this attack is that while this attack happened–or whatever happened to these ships–Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was in Tehran. This is the first visit of a Japanese prime minister to Tehran in 41 years. He came there to talk about trying to open the diplomatic page again, which the Trump administration has tried to close. Earlier this year, the Foreign Minister of Iran, Mr. Zarif, went to Tokyo, met Mr. Shinzo Abe in his home, in his private residence. When Shinzo Abe walked out of that meeting, he said that the nuclear deal is a deal of great stability for West Asia. So Iran has no motivation to scuttle the talks with the Japanese, no motivation to basically annoy the Japanese, anger the Japanese. So there’s no motivation. It’s very unclear if there’s any hard evidence that Iran did this.

These are the kinds of questions that should have been asked of Mike Pompeo. But it’s important, Marc, that Mr. Pompeo did his so-called press conference, which was essentially just a statement. And then he walked out. He didn’t take any questions. He didn’t even bother to allow the basic democratic protocols to be met. But the other media should be asking these questions. First, what happened, and secondly, who has a motive to do this? I’m not alleging anything. I’m simply saying that at this time, it is totally illogical for Iran to have conducted any kind of action like this against two oil tankers which were on their way to Japan.

MARC STEINER: Juan Cole this morning was Tweeting and writing in an article that–he even speculated–could it be the Houthis who swept up mines and somehow got them to the other Gulf. So this is full of speculation, we don’t know. The question is, even internally in Iran, there are differences between the Revolutionary Guard, people in the government. There could be something happening inside internally in Iran. It could be something totally separate. Clearly something happened, but I don’t think we have any clear evidence at this point about what exactly happened, and that’s the real issue here, and who did this and why.

VIJAY PRASHAD: This is exactly correct. I’m not willing to speculate and say it may have been x or may have been y, because that’s a fool’s errand. We can say it’s some hardliners in Iran, or it’s the Houthis, or it’s the Americans who are doing it themselves. These are things that are out there. The great value of the Internet is it’s a place of many, many theories. But the issue here is not for that. It’s not for me to say who did it. It’s for me to question a government’s absolute certainty in the absence of providing any evidence. That, for me, is the standard of journalism. I’m not prepared to go out there and speculate about who did it, but I question when a government says that they know precisely what has happened and have not provided evidence.

I’d like to say that at least when Secretary of State Colin Powell went before the United Nations and openly lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, he lied and provided evidence based on lies. In other words, the forceful interrogations produced some material which was totally erroneous, but at least they provided false evidence. In this case, they haven’t bothered to provide any evidence at all. There’s a decline in standards, I must say, in the U.S. State Department.

MARC STEINER: Let me play this one clip of Donald Trump talking about the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf, and what he said may be happening here, as we conclude this conversation and pick up on this.

AINSLEY EARHARDT: The Strait of Hormuz is a critical shipping lane. And we’re watching it carefully. If they try to close that, is the United States obligated to try to keep it open?

DONALD TRUMP: Well, they’re not going to be closing it. It’s not going to be–if it closes, it’s not going to be closed for long. And they know it. And they’ve been told in very strong terms. And we want to get them back to the table if they want to go back. I’m ready when they are. But whenever they’re ready, it’s OK. In the meantime, I’m in no rush. I’m in no rush.

MARC STEINER: And he clearly said more than once he’s in no rush to negotiate with Iran. I’d like to comment on that as we conclude. But also, one of the things that’s been missing, it seems to me, from all of the reporting that I’ve been watching and reading, is that nobody has talked about the unilateral decision of the United States to stop Iran from being able to export its oil. That itself some people could see as an act of war, and not going through the Security Council or any other international body. So there’s a complexity between what we just heard Trump say and a political reality on the ground.

VIJAY PRASHAD: One of the great values of President Donald Trump of the United States is that he says all kinds of things. And of course, he’s lying, because it’s his administration, policy defined by his National Security Advisor John Bolton, by his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, it’s his administration that not only unilaterally walked away from the table–that is to say, the five party nuclear agreement, not only did he unilaterally basically rip that up, but he also unilaterally placed sanctions, which you’re quite correct, could be interpreted as an act of war. And then he unilaterally, on May 2, had the waivers given to countries like South Korea, Japan, India, Turkey, and so on. He ripped those up. This was unilateral American decisions. And it’s put the Iranians in such a position, Marc–and this is where it gets very disturbing. The Iranians, in order to basically hold their pride intact, have said that they are unwilling to come back to the table if the Americans are going to drag them over the coals, which means Trump’s position is pushing the Iranians away from the diplomatic option.

And it’s this reason why I feel the intervention of Shinzo Abe of Japan has been so crucial, because Mr. Abe’s visit to Iran was essentially to convince the Iranians not to have a hard position against diplomacy, which they’ve been pushed into the corner into. And also it shows that it’s had an impact. Because at the Shanghai Cooperative Organization meeting in Bishkek, the Iranians, led by Hassan Rouhani, the president of Iran, came to this meeting of the FCO and opened a dialogue with the Russians, Chinese, Indians, and others, and said they are very open to continuing dialogue. If Mr. Trump is serious and not lying on Fox and Friends, then he should approach the Iranians again and say, “Look, I’m afraid we do need to come back to the table and I made a mistake months earlier.”

MARC STEINER: Well, we’ve been talking about Vijay Prashad, Director of Tricontinental. And here at The Real News, we’re going to stay on top of this. This is a very critical story for the future of our country, for Iran, for the planet, war and peace, and we will stay on top of this and keep you abreast of all that’s going on with the analysis from Vijay and others. And Vijay Prashad, thank you so much for joining us here on The Real News today. I deeply appreciate your time.

VIJAY PRASHAD: Thanks a lot, Marc.

MARC STEINER: And I’m Marc Steiner here for The Real News Network. Thank you all for joining us. We’ll stay on top of this. Take care.

🐍 Bolton  and 🦖Pompeo  Are Trying to Start Another ForeverWar

BY Matt Korda, Truthout

PUBLISHED June 15, 2019

National Security Advisor John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are manufacturing a crisis in order to catapult the United States into an explosive conflict with Iran. This shouldn't be remotely surprising, given their track records of supporting regime change and opposing the Iran nuclear deal. Sustained public, media and congressional pressure might prompt Trump to realize that enabling his top two foreign policy appointees is simply more trouble for him than it's worth.

Will A False-Flag Iran War Cause A Financial Crisis?

Mon, 06/17/2019 - 09:14

Authored by John Rubino via DollarCollapse.com,

Just a couple of weeks ago the financial world’s biggest worry was the plunging price of oil. Supply was up, stockpiles were building and speculation was pointing towards $40 a barrel, a price at which the fracking/shale oil “miracle” would evaporate. A trillion dollars of related junk debt would default, taking a big part of the leveraged speculating community along for the ride.

Then it all changed. Someone attacked some ships and oil infrastructure in the Middle East, the US and Saudi Arabia accused Iran, and now the fear is that a major regional war will interrupt the flow of oil, sending its price way up and causing a financial crisis at least as severe as a shale oil debt collapse.

This is a legitimate concern, for two reasons.

First, oil shocks have happened in the past, most notably during the Arab-Israeli war of the 1970s. So we know what they do, and it isn’t pretty. Gas prices jump, workers can’t afford their commute, the economy slows dramatically and pretty much everyone other than domestic 🦕🦖 energy companies suffers badly.

Second and potentially more serious, the pretext for this war is so blatantly false that it risks destroying what little credibility the US government has left. Think about it: With the US doing everything it can to delegitimize and destabilize Iran while positioning assets for an invasion, Iran’s leaders … start attacking oil tankers in its offshore waters.

Does that make sense? Of course not. Much more likely is that this is yet another false flag – that is, an incident faked to give a pretext for war – and a clumsy one at that.

For readers who aren’t clear on the false flag concept and its ubiquity in geopolitics, here are just a few of the dozens of documented examples:

Japanese troops blew up a train track in 1931, blamed it on China and used it to justify the invasion of Manchuria.

After taking power, the Nazis burned down their own parliament building and blamed the communists. Later on, they faked attacks on German citizens and blamed the Poles, to justify the subsequent invasion of that country.

In 1939 the Soviets shelled one of their own villages and blamed Finland, prior to invading.

In 1954 Israeli terrorist cells operating in Egypt bombed U.S. diplomatic facilities, leaving behind evidence implicating Arabs.

The CIA hired Iranians in the 1950s to pose as Communists and stage bombings in Iran in order to ignite a rebellion against the democratically-elected government. After the rebellion succeeded the US installed a hand-picked dictator.

The US staged a naval engagement — the Gulf of Tonkin incident – and blamed the North Vietnamese, providing a pretext for entering the Vietnam War.

The FBI used provocateurs in the 1950s through 1970s to carry out violent acts and falsely blame them on political activists.

In 1984, Israel faked radio messages that linked Lybia to terrorism. The US bombed Libya immediately thereafter.

Russian blew up apartment buildings in 1999 and falsely blamed it on Chechens, in order to justify an invasion of Chechnya

The list goes on seemly forever. But these examples are enough to make the twin points that 1) lots of countries employ false flags attacks, and 2) the US is especially fond of them.

There’s just one problem this time: Everyone is on to it. Even the New York Times, which has never met a Mid East war it didn’t love, sees through the deception:

As Trump Accuses Iran, He Has One Problem: His Own Credibility

To President Trump, the question of culpability in the explosions that crippled two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman is no question at all. “It’s probably got essentially Iran written all over it,” he declared on Friday.

The question is whether the writing is clear to everyone else. For any president, accusing another country of an act of war presents an enormous challenge to overcome skepticism at home and abroad. But for a president known for falsehoods and crisis-churning bombast, the test of credibility appears far more daunting.

For two and a half years in office, Mr. Trump has spun out so many misleading or untrue statements about himself, his enemies, his policies, his politics, his family, his personal story, his finances and his interactions with staff that even his own former communications director once said “he’s a liar” and many Americans long ago concluded that he cannot be trusted.

Fact-checking Mr. Trump is a full-time occupation in Washington, and in no other circumstance is faith in a president’s word as vital as in matters of war and peace. The public grew cynical about presidents and intelligence after George W. Bush’s invasion of Iraq based on false accusations of weapons of mass destruction, and the doubt spilled over to Barack Obama when he accused Syria of gassing its own people. As Mr. Trump confronts Iran, he carries the burden of their history and his own.

“The problem is twofold for them,” said John E. McLaughlin, a deputy C.I.A. director during the Iraq war. “One is people will always rightly question intelligence because it’s not an exact science. But the most important problem for them is their own credibility and contradictions.”

The task is all the more formidable for Mr. Trump, who himself has assailed the reliability of America’s intelligence agencies and even the intelligence chiefs he appointed, suggesting they could not be believed when their conclusions have not fit his worldview.

All of that can raise questions when international tension flares up, like the explosion of the two oil tankers on Thursday, a provocation that fueled anxiety about the world’s most important oil shipping route and the prospect of escalation into military conflict. When Mr. Trump told Fox News on Friday that “Iran did do it,” he was asking his country to accept his word.

“Trump’s credibility is about as solid as a snake oil salesman,” said Jen Psaki, who was the White House communications director and top State Department spokeswoman under Mr. Obama. “That may work for selling his particular brand to his political base, but during serious times, it leaves him without a wealth of good will and trust from the public that what he is saying is true even on an issue as serious as Iran’s complicity in the tanker explosions.”

Combine these two problems – a Middle East war sending oil much higher, and a near-universal lack of belief in the rationale for that war – and the remaining faith in American competence and honesty might evaporate.

This takes us back to finance, specifically to a monetary system based on fiat currency which depends for its value on our collective trust in the people managing it.

The Fed will respond to an oil crisis by cutting interest rates back to – or below – zero. But will this be met with euphoria as in the past or with skepticism, as happened in Europe recently? If it’s the latter, remember what gold did the last time there was both an oil shock and a loss of faith in government:

Agelbert NOTE: Excellent article, but I have a few quibbles. I have taken the liberty of correcting the following sentence from the article:
"Combine these two problems – a Middle East war sending oil much higher, and a near-universal lack of belief in the rationale for that war – and the remaining faith in American competence and honesty might WOULD evaporate."

I am of te studied opinion that anyone in the USA who still has any faith whatsoever in U.S. Government competence and honesty is a delusional victim of fascist propagnada.

These  fools and knaves, no matter what the MSM would have you believe, represent a small miinority of the U.S. population. While it is true that the M.I.C. is filled with them, that does NOT ensure that they have "won" anything but the demise of our country from within. They have LOST the credibility they require to govern. So, while they still have the power to wreak fascist havoc, doing so is a suicidal move by them.

A commenter voiced my second "quibble":

An Iran war would cause a hell of a lot worse than a "financial crisis".  But sure, there would be one of those too.

The expression "There will be HELL to pay" comes to mind.

Blum adds these further bombings:

Iran, April 2003 – hit by US missiles during bombing of Iraq, killing at least one person

Pakistan, 2002-03 – bombed by US planes several times as part of combat against the Taliban and other opponents of the US occupation of Afghanistan

China, 1999 – its heavily bombed embassy in Belgrade is legally Chinese territory, and it appears rather certain that the bombing was no accident (see chapter 25 of Rogue State)

France, 1986 – After the French government refused the use of its air space to US warplanes headed for a bombing raid on Libya, the planes were forced to take another, longer route; when they reached Libya they bombed so close to the French embassy that the building was damaged and all communication links knocked out.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 13, 1985 – A bomb dropped by a police helicopter burned down an entire block, some 60 homes destroyed, 11 dead, including several small children. The police, the mayor’s office, and the FBI were all involved in this effort to evict a black organization called MOVE from the house they lived in.

Did Trump 🦀 Manufacture Iran Oil Tanker Attack to Start a War?

Could Trump lie the United States into a war with Iran as part of his election campaign?

Iran and the US disagree on whether an Iranian vessel attacked an oil tanker or was trying to save it by removing a mine. Trump could use this to start a war with Iran and have us lied in to war with Iran.

The video isn’t clear wither it was an Iranian military vessel. We don’t know who placed the mine, if there was a mine on the oil tanker at all.

Donald Trump is not the first person to try to fake a war with Iran.

Before John Bolton's oil fire,Vice President  Dick Cheney suggested that the United States could fake an incident and take the nation to war.

If the Republicans were willing to go to fake their way into war before, what will Trump's Republicans be willing to do?

My wife told me she saw a cable news segment (on CNN or MSNBC) in which an interview subject pulled out the old New China News Agency trope, "As Is Well Known," and said that "everybody recalls" that the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983 was done by Iran.

In fact, she asked me, "Who do you recall bombed the Marine Barracks in Lebanon?" My response was "Hezbollah," although I am not typically Mr. Answer Guy. As it turns out, per CNN the bombing was traced to Hezbollah, a militant and political group that originated in Lebanon in 1982. Iranian and Syrian involvement was also suspected, but not apparently demonstrated.

Not for nothing did Gore Vidal call this country "The United States of Amnesia."

How "consent" is manufactured. In much the same way as lunch meat.
