Thomas Hobbes, The English Works of Thomas Hobbes, vol. 6 (Dialogue, Behemoth, Rhetoric) [1839]

A DIALOGUE between A PHILOSOPHER & A STUDENT of THE COMMON LAWS OF ENGLAND.

A DIALOGUE of THE COMMON LAW.

SNIPPET:

P.
We have hitherto spoken of laws without considering anything of the nature and essence of a law; and now unless we define the word law, we can go no farther without ambiguity and fallacy, which will be but loss of time; whereas, on the contrary, the agreement upon our words will enlighten all we have to say hereafter.

L.
I do not remember the definition of law in any statute.

P.
I think so: for the statutes were made by authority, and not drawn from any other principles than the care of the safety of the people. Statutes are not philosophy, as is the common-law, and other disputable arts, but are commands or prohibitions, which ought to be obeyed, because assented to by submission made to the Conqueror here in England, and to whosoever had the sovereign power in other commonwealths; so that the positive laws of all places are statutes. The definition of law was therefore unnecessary for the makers of statutes, though very necessary to them whose work it is to teach the sense of the law.
[25]

L.
There is an accurate definition of a law in Bracton, cited by Sir Edward Coke: Lex est sanctio justa, jubens honesta, et prohibens contraria.

P.
That is to say, law is a just statute, commanding those things which are honest, and forbidding the contrary. From whence it followeth, that in all cases it must be the honesty or dishonesty that makes the command a law; whereas you know that but for the law we could not, as saith St. Paul, have known what is sin. Therefore this definition is no ground at all for any farther discourse of law. Besides, you know the rule of honest and dishonest refers to honour, and that it is justice only, and injustice, that the law respecteth. But that which I most except against in this definition, is, that it supposes that a statute made by the sovereign power of a nation may be unjust. There may indeed in a statute-law, made by men, be found iniquity, but not injustice.  ;)

L.
This is somewhat subtile.  ;D  I pray deal plainly. What is the difference between injustice and iniquity?

P.
I pray you tell me first, what is the difference between a court of justice, and a court of equity?

L.
A court of justice is that which hath cognizance of such causes as are to be ended by the positive laws of the land; and a court of equity is that, to which belong such causes as are to be determined by equity; that is to say, by the law of reason.

P.
You see then that the difference between [26]injustice and iniquity is this; that injustice is the transgression of a statute-law,  ;) and iniquity the transgression of the law of reason .  But perhaps you mean by common-law, not the law itself, but the manner of proceeding in the law, as to matter of fact, by twelve men, freeholders; though those twelve men are no court of equity, nor of justice, because they determine not what is just or unjust, but only whether it be done or not done; and their judgment is nothing else but a confirmation of that which is properly the judgment of the witnesses. For to speak exactly, there cannot possibly be any judge of fact besides the witnesses.

L.
How would you have a law defined?

P.
Thus;  a law is the command of him or them that have the sovereign power, given to those that be his or their subjects, declaring publicly and plainly what every of them may do, and what they must forbear to do.

L.
Seeing all judges in all courts ought to judge according to equity, which is the law of reason, a distinct court of equity seemeth to me to be unnecessary, and but a burthen to the people, since common-law and equity are the same law.

P.    It were so indeed, if judges could not err; but since they may err, and that the King is not bound to any other law but that of equity, it belongs to him alone to give remedy to them that, by the ignorance or corruption of a judge, shall suffer damage.

L.
By your definition of a law, the King’s proclamation under the Great Seal of England is a [27]law; for it is a command, and public, and of the sovereign to his subjects.

P.
Why not, if he think it necessary for the good of his subjects? For this is a maxim at the common-law alleged by Sir Edward Coke himself, (i Inst. sect. 306), Quando lex aliquid concedit, concedere videtur et id per quod devenitur ad illud. And you know out of the same author, that divers Kings of England have often, to the petitions in Parliament which they granted, annexed such exceptions as these, unless there be necessity, saving our regality; which I think should be always understood, though they be not expressed; and are understood so by common lawyers, who agree that the King may recall any grant wherein he was deceived.

L.
Again, whereas you make it of the essence of a law to be publicly and plainly declared to the people, I see no necessity for that.  ;)  Are not all subjects bound to take notice of all acts of Parliament, when no act can pass without their consent?

P.
If you had said that no act could pass without their knowledge, then indeed they had been bound to take notice of them; but none can have knowledge of them but the members of the houses of Parliament; therefore the rest of the people are excused.  Or else the knights of the shire should be bound to furnish people with a sufficient number of copies, at the people’s charge, of the acts of Parliament, at their return into the country; that every man may resort to them, and by themselves, or friends, take notice of what they are obliged to. For otherwise it were impossible they should be [28]obeyed: and that no man is bound to do a thing impossible, is one of Sir Edward Coke’s maxims at the common-law.
[/quote]

Agelbert NOTE: Notice how the philosopher is cleverly taking the Lawyer to task for attempting to assume that, just because Parliament knows about a law it passed, the PEOPLE therefore KNOW about it too (and must obey it because they "know" about it. LOL!). You are WITNESSING the birth of the elite establishment through sophistic rhetoric. :o  :P

Despite the fact that the philosopher appears elitist by giving the King the "divine right to rule" prerogative, he is simply using CFS to smell an elite rat in the group of fine folks populating Parliament (and the Courts) in pretense of "ensuring justice for the people".

THIS is HOW it all started;
a slow, steady elite SCAM to "represent" us but keep the lion's share of power and privilege for THEM after they had taken it away from the King through clever arguments about "representative" democracy.    It worked!  :evil4:

Here's the MONEY QUOTE that immediately follows in the paragraph above from the philosopher.  I humbly apologize for breaking it into two parts. I just had to throw my two shillings in.

Quote
P. (continued from above) I know that most of the statutes are printed; but it does not appear that every man is bound to buy the book of statutes, nor to search for them at Westminster or at the Tower, nor to understand the language wherein they are for the most part written.

Hitler's AMERICAN business partners EVEN AFTER THE WAR STARTED!

Standard Oil was INSTRUMENTAL in providing petroleum products without which the NAZIs would NOT have been able to carry out the Blitzkrieg!

And an Opel factory in Germany OWNED BY GM and bombed to rubble by American bombers in 1944 was a LOSS for General Motors that the USA REIMBURSED with the money of WE-the-PEOPLE to the tune of 32 million dollars!

IBM was THERE too, big time. Their machines helped count slave labor and targeted Jews!

And wait until you read about Henry Ford!

Henry Ford being awarded THIS medal!  :o

NOW, notice the following Propaganda film. Notice that Krupp industries is blamed, correctly, for many NAZI horrors by the British while not one word is said about Standard Oil or any other allied WAR PROFITEER that played both sides before, during and after the war.
Fast forward to 2014, it seems the German people did learn the lessons the British (and the U.S., of course) sought to teach them. But WE did not.

The proof is the training of police officers in Germany post war. It states in the video that police officers are to be taught that they are the servants of the public, not the other way around. They learned it. We forgot. Gott mitt uns!  >:(  :(  :P

MANY hidden nuggets of history.  :o

Did you know that FDR wanted to green the Sahara desert  and had a real world plan to do it but Churchill could not STAND the idea of ANY country in Africa (along with India!) being independent of British "interests" ("free" trade tyranny)?  :o

Churchill JUSTIFIED this predatory outlook by referring to the RACIST DARWINIAN concept, now totally debunked, of "superior" races ruling over "inferior" ones. LOL!

Churchill raged about how EMPIRE is what made the British GREAT and NOTHING must be allowed to interfere with the British EMPIRE. FDR proceed clean his clock verbally. FDR had many excellent post war plans. Wall Street had OTHER plans...

The Democratic party managed to replace FDR's GOOD Vice President Henry Wallace, the one who would have implemented FDR's policies,  with Truman. And so we went down the British RAT HOLE towards "free" trade fascism. along with the TOTALLY unnecessary cold war.

A foiled assassination attempt BY THE BRITISH the day of Lincoln's first inauguration.
Why "free trade" is a British invention to keep countries poor and backward. Nothing has changed.

A planned Bering Straight railroad bridge between Russia and the USA, a north to south railway all the way from Alaska to the southern tip of South America and other huge railroad projects (Western Europe to India) threatened British sea power control of resources in countries all over the world  so they sabotaged the plans. McKinley, a Lincoln admirer and enemy of "free trade" Predatory Capitalism was killed for actively supporting this rail expansion.   >:(

Teddy Roosevelt was a WORSHIPPER of all things British (you will learn exactly why!  :o). With him all those great railroad plans ere deep sixed and SHIP commerce (see British "interests" ;)) got a HUGE boost with the Panama (a country INVENTED by Teddy for that specific purpose!) canal.  ;D)

Woodrow Wilson was an AVID supporter of the Klu Klux Klan.  >:( You remember "bring DEMOCRACY to Europe" Wilson, don't you?  ;D My how things have changed...

Learn how The British started WWI by intrigue. Learn how all these monarchs were related with each other, giving opportunity for the British to divide and conquer. Learn how the goal of the British was to destabilize many countries through war and impoverish them in order to avoid a more unified world economy not controlled by British "free trade" tyranny through their mastery of the seas.

The British were losing the world property chess game, so the went all out to knock over the chess board.  It worked.   :(

In fact, the British ensured the conditions after WWI were so ONEROUS on the Germans that they, for all practical purposes, were setting up another convenient (for the British    ) WAR.

Hear Franklin Roosevelt, when first nominated to the Presidency, describe Tickle Down Economics (1:14:00) as Tory Economics LONG before you heard it during the Reagan Baloney years. Learn how FDR defeated an attempt by the elite in HIS OWN PARTY to scuttle FDR's chances at the nomination through skullduggery, wedge politics and propaganda. They wanted to get a Wall Street PRO-Fascsit in power. FDR figured it out and was able to counter this intrigue.

But the New Deal is DEAD now and it seems Wall Street Fascist "free trade" tyranny is the destructive force behind our war making and country destroying policies on behalf of the oligarchs. WE are the "British" ruthless  war profiteering, human misery ensuring "free trade"  empire now.   >:(  :(  :P

The Japanese DID NOT surrender in WWII because the genocidal atomic bombs were dropped!

It was the destruction of their forces in Manchuria by the Russians (who entered the war at that time) that convinced them. The rationale was that the Russians would kill the Emperor AND his family but the Americans wouldn't. General Curtis Lemay had been fire bombing Japanese cities for almost a YEAR. Destruction of entire cities and their populations had not caused the Japanese to surrender. What you have been taught about the atomic bombs "ending the war  and saving American lives  "  is pro-nuclear (genocidal) welfare queen  propaganda.  >:(  Details in the video.

If Henry Wallace had been President instead of Truman, the following predatory Capitalist, War Profiteering, profit over planet PIGGERY would NOT have taken place.  Renewable energy, instead of being a tiny green sliver of token lip service, would be over HALF of the pie chart. Numerous wars would have been avoided. The planet would be healthier and the biosphere less trashed and hopelessly compromised than it is now. Thousands of species would not have gone extinct. We would be championing LIFE instead of aiding a few conscience free corporate villains to make fortunes from POLLUTION and DEATH.  >:(

FULL LENGTH VIDEO of Dick Gregory speaking to Architects and Engineers for 911 and the America Too Few Know About.

Some fascinating gems of history you don't know about:

1) FDR had a drug habit.

2) After the Kennedy Assassination a Congressman claimed the government story was false. The New York Times claimed said Congressman was "mentally ill". The next time that Congressman flew. his plane disappeared. William Jefferson Clinton drove him to the airport.

3) The day of 9/11, after the first plane hit the WTC, the Sears Tower in Chicago was evacuated immediately. the Standard Oil skyscraper (almost as tall),  a FEW FEET from the Sears Tower WAS NOT evacuated.

4) Trayvon Martin's parents received 2 million dollars for winning an ex curia (out of court) wrongful death lawsuit. But the really strange part is that the AWARD was NOT considered a damages award!  I guess SOMEONE DID NOT want that to get around (only ONE newspaper, the Orlando Sentinal, put out a brief story on it - no front page stuff -  ;)). It turns out Trayvon was killed BEFORE the basketball game he was supposed to have watched and left at half time (when he allegedly got shot). The long and the REALLY short of it is that his parents collected the millions from a life insurance policy that became effective about a week AFTER Trayvon Martin was KILLED!  :o

5)Jean Dixon, the famous "psychic", was fed advanced information on the Kennedy Assassination (six months before!) by Hoover. Hoover, for DECADES before and after, had her on the payroll "preparing" the public for "things" that would happen.

Dick Gregory is not just a knowledgeable historian; he has PROOF of UNPUBLISHED American History confirming "how it works" in our so-called "representative democracy. He presents part of it to the Architects and Engineers for 911 in order to explain to them that the adversary is bad news BUT, they have to reveal the truth or this country is TOAST.  He thanks them profusely for their work and wishes them well in their fight.

8 Historical Fact Filled minutes of Dick Gregory unchained!

King James (of the King James Bible fame) was a gay.
The English Palace was named for his lover, Lord Buckingham.  No, that is not a joke; that's a historical fact.

But really ;), when you PONDER that surname, it IS kinda suggestive, isn't it? ---->Hi O Bucking HAM   :P

Dick Gregory would get a whippin' if he tried to convince his mother that Jesus Christ was NOT a Christian! Christianity as a formal religion took nearly a century after Jesus Christ's death and resurrection to become established.

There was a female POPE! She had faked being a man. When she declared she wasn't one, they killed her in the Vatican!  :(

Wait until you hear about the EYE of the NEEDLE that Christ talked about when He mentioned the difficulty of Rich Men in entering Heaven.  ;D

6 Formal Apologies from Government Officials  ::)

by s.e. smith
December 20, 2014
4:00 pm

This week brings news that, 150 years too late, Colorado’s governor has formally apologized for the Sand Creek Massacre. Almost 200 Native men, women, and children in a peaceful Colorado encampment were slaughtered by Colorado troops in 1864, when chiefs representing the Arapaho and Cheyenne people gathered for the explicit purpose of negotiating a treaty with the regional government. They were met with appalling violence that is remembered to this day at the site — but it took a long time for an official apology to reach the descendants of the massacre.

Formal apologies tend to be complicated, and it’s unusual for a high-level official like a governor or the president to apologize. Congress and regional legislatures are also reluctant to issue formal apologies. One complication is the risk of legal liability — while it seems cynical and coldhearted, government officials may be worried about exposing the government to lawsuits if they admit wrongdoing, even if it happened more than a century ago.

Another issue is the tendency to want to let bygones be bygones  , refusing requests to acknowledge the problematic history of the United States
so it can be openly confronted and addressed. As civil rights issues become a growing subject, hopefully we’ll see many more apologies, like a nod to women who were denied the vote, a formal discussion of other crimes against Native American groups, and much, much more.

So what has the government apologized for?

The 1893 overthrow of the Hawaiian government. 100 years after the United States took control of the formerly independent kingdom of Hawaii, President Clinton signed a formal apology for the nation’s actions — but the country has yet to endorse Hawaiian independence.    The apology noted that Hawaiians didn’t vote or endorse annexation, and that the United States failed to respect the nation’s sovereignty.

“…official depredations, ill-conceived policies, and the breaking of convenants” with Native Americans. Sneakily buried in an appropriations bill for 2010, this apology was intended to act as a blanket statement about the historic abuse of Native Americans by the government, but it rang hollow, considering the numerous acts of specific violence committed by colonizers, including not just Sand Creek but Wounded Knee, the Pamunkey Peace Talks, the Pound Ridge Massacre, the Hillabee Massacre, and many, many more. Colorado’s governor made a good start, but we have a long journey ahead.

The Tuskeegee Syphilis Study. President Clinton was awfully busy apologizing during his time in office. In 1997, he issued a formal Presidential Apology for this racist chapter in American history. The 40 year “study” involved leaving Black men with syphilis infections untreated to see what would happen, an appalling abuse of human subjects and a chilling example of medical racism.
Slavery. It took a while, but yes, the government finally got around to apologizing for slavery, though it said nothing about reparations. Notably, the apology came after the United States had elected its first Black president — perhaps Congress felt that the cognitive dissonance was too much to bear. The apology also covered segregation and Jim Crow laws.

Japanese internment. One of the little-known horrors of the Second World War was the mass internment of resident Japanese people and Japanese-American citizens in the United States. In addition to apologizing for the unjust and horrific incarceration of innocent civilians, the government also arranged reparations.

Agelbert NOTE:
Now some of you worthies will see no connection to the above article with the following video. Well, consider this FACT: AT LEAST 50%, as of recent estimates by serious, credentialed historian scholars, of U.S. Government documents detailing policy, actions, inactions (and so on) at every level of government are classified. No, FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) didn't do much to change the massive level of secrecy.

Historians DO NOT KNOW about 50% of American History because the U.S. Government does not permit it (Carter opened a brief window with the FOIA and Reagan QUICKLY closed it by putting all kinds of onerous bureaucratic hurdles to stifle FOIA requests). Nothing has changed as of 2014. Considering that secret government decisions are FAR more useful in determining the reasons for this or that action or inaction, U.S. History is a BLACK HOLE. We are taught the sanitized version, period.

Besides presenting some eye opening photos and official U.S. Government documents that managed to slip out during the Carter Administration, the case is presented calmly, logically and dispassionately for a government that has not been democratic, in any way, shape or form, for at least since the 1930's.

He calmly states that all our our leaders are selected, not elected. He explains that as a consequence of a "breakaway civilization" of humans that have used, for their own profit, captured ET technology that has been reverse engineered.

Since these people are the very same ones that were (ARE) in charge of our fossil fuel government (from at least the 1930's onward) when the wiz bang transportation technology of the ET craft began to be reverse engineered, they kept a giant lid on it to this day to keep fossil fuel profits and the war profiteering scam going. Because this technology is handed out to corporations to reverse engineer (the RAND Corporation has been picking he corporations to do this), the effect after several decades it that corporations are a FAR more powerful coercive force in the USA than the government.  :P

His hypothesis fits. It explains the pretzel logic and laughably absurd bull**** we are presented to us as "news" and "history" in this country. The money is so good that anyone who talks is dead meat. So the secrecy is preserved through fear as well as privilege. It gets more comical by the day. Consequently, the speaker claims they are having increasing difficulties in keeping the lid on the secrecy.

He goes into a detailed discussion in which he sympathizes with the "plight" of these "overlord" humans. How do you tell a people you have lied to them for at least eight decades? How do you keep them from stringing you and greedy, elitist fascist friends and your flying saucers up for being traitors? So, the secrecy continues and gets more unwieldy.

Releasing this technology would be a huge bag of worms for the status quo. It would make a mockery of the scientific community not previously privy to this stuff that has always poo pooed it.

And the inferiority complex for human brainiacs that would accompany the knowledge that there are other intelligent species far ahead of us that are not going to let us "do our thing", as our top Wall Street Worshipping dogs have always claimed we could because we are the "APEX PREDATOR CROWN OF EVOLUTION".

So, they release a little here and a little there with computers and other tech that doesn't rock the boat too much. If this is true, it blows a giant hole in the idea the WE invented all this stuff, explains the incredible (though tiny in comparison to what they've got secretly) advances in technology since the 1930's.

It's a long video. Most of you won't watch it. If even a tenth of what he says is true (I believe that he does NOT have all the answers but he has a lot of them and he asks some very pertinent questions followed by hard boiled logically plausible answers) Fascism has been the sine qua non condition of our government for a LONG time.

Surly, call me a nut if you wish, but this is another dot for you to connect that supports my hypothesis that our politicians are SELECTED, not "elected".

If you do not watch the entire video, please do not argue with me. Just assume it's a science fiction scenario that makes a nice scary movie but could not possibly be true. Our leaders wouldn't do that to us, now would they?

Secret Space Program / Breakaway Civilization Conference - Richard Dolan

Published on Sep 16, 2014

The Secret Space Program / Breakaway Civilization Conference - Richard Dolan - This conference is about a secret space program / breakaway civilization with Richard Dolan as the speaker. he will provide incredible evidence of the existence of UFOs and why it is being covered up deliberately in an attempt to block the worldwide release of exotic energy technology. This technology would end our reliance on fossil fuels and would enable many other great possibilities.

Dolan's first book, UFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Cover-up 1941-1973 was published in 2000 by Keyhole Publishing Company and republished by Hampton Roads Publishing Company in 2002. The preface is written by the noted scientist and author Jacques Vallée, Ph.D. Vallee's preface begins: "The important book you are about to read is the first comprehensive study of the U.S. government's response to the intrusion of UFO phenomena in American skies over the last fifty years." A follow-up book, titled UFOs and the National Security State: The Cover-Up Exposed, 1973-1991 was published in August, 2009. In November 2010, A.D. After Disclosure: The People’s Guide to Life After Contact, was published by Richard Dolan and Bryce Zabel
