Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. -- Matthew 7:9-20

He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matt 10:37

Agelbert NOTE: This man describes the only correct attitude of a Christian towards war. As you can imagine, this attitude is considered "unpatriotic" by 100% of the pseudo-Christians in the USA.

Agelbert NOTE: Pastor Robert W. Reed explains why so-called "Just War" doctrine is not now, or ever was, a Christian Doctrine.

SNIPPET:

Quote
A wicked man’s words are like a spark that ignites violence. In fact, sins of the tongue are the most common kind of violence in the Psalms.

C. S. Lewis notes…

“I think that when I began to read it, these surprised me a little; I had half expected that in a simpler and more violent age when more evil was done with the knife, the big stick, and the firebrand, less would be done by talk. But in reality, the Psalmists mention hardly any kind of evil more often than this one, which the most civilized societies share. One almost hears the incessant whispering, tattling, lying, scolding, flattery, and circulation of rumors.”

Evil shows itself most often in verbal violence. You see it every day in post and comments on Facebook and other social media. You see it on television. The Apostle Paul quotes Psalm 10:7 to show that everyone, Jews and Gentiles alike, are under the power of sin.

Romans 3: 13, 14 (KJV) “Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues, they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:”

James 3:6 says… “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.”

The wicked man is treacherous. He cares nothing about the people he attacks.

For one thing, his heart is bad. In Matthew 12:34 (KJV), Jesus said, “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” His words are full of “cursing and… oppression” because his heart is full of cursing and oppression. His very nature is to use whatever power he has to use and exploit others.

God is kind and patient, and he offers the evil one every opportunity to turn away from his sin. The wicked mistake God’s patience for negligence. The godly recognize God’s kindness and run to him, but those who are evil are truly arrogant and aggressive in everything they do.

What they don’t realize is that a wise man can see right through them.

However, only the foolish will follow them.

Psalm 49 English Standard Version (ESV)

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.

Hear this, all peoples! Give ear, all inhabitants of the world, both low and high, rich and poor together! My mouth shall speak wisdom; the meditation of my heart shall be understanding. I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.

Why should I fear in times of trouble, when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me, those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?

Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice, that he should live on forever and never see the pit. For he sees that even the wise die; the fool and the stupid alike must perish and leave their wealth to others. Their graves are their homes forever *, their dwelling places to all generations, though they called lands by their own names. Man in his pomp will not remain; he is like the beasts that perish.

This is the path of those who have foolish confidence; yet after them people approve of their boasts **.  Selah

Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol; death shall be their shepherd, and the upright shall rule over them in the morning. Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no place to dwell.

But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me.  Selah

Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him. For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed —and though you get praise when you do well for yourself— his soul will go to the generation of his fathers, who will never again see light.

Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.

Footnotes:
* Psalm 49:11 Septuagint, Syriac, Targum; Hebrew Their inward thought was that their homes were forever

** Psalm 49:13 Or and of those after them who approve of their boasts

Good thoughts for any season.

Doug Anderson: That Quotation from the Talmud

by Vox Populi

Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world's grief. Do justly now, love mercy now, walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.

I understand the world will be what it is
when I'm dead. I sometimes look at my hands
and know they are not mine. This body on loan.
Hoping whoever finds it, maybe hanging
on a Good Will coat rack, will judge it fit
to go on working. I would like to believe
the small things I've done will add something
to the greater energy that will pull us out
of this pit-bound course. There are more people
in the world than we can feed, can house,
can even imagine-we have the choice
to close and fortify the heart or keep it open.
The second takes more courage.
All wisdom, all salvation lies in this.
The heart opening and opening to hold all,
to dissolve its boundaries in a truth we don't yet know.

Doug Anderson, like too few humans today, understands the cause and effect message within that quote from the Talmud. That is, that God centered Caring Capacity, not worries and decisions made based on human centered Carrying Capacity, is what God celebrates, rewards and requires (see: ... neither are you free to abandon it.) in us. When we put material Carrying Capacity above all other considerations, we are in danger of losing our souls. God centered Caring Capacity is not optional for the Salvation seeking Servant of God.

Christians, and anybody else out there, who choose to continue to live according to the wisdom of the world, are not living as friends of God. They are living in adultery as God's enemies.

For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’

Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 25:42-46

Words to keep in mind today as Trump's internal Gestapo launches ICE raids to further terrorize brown people and disrupt families. Perfect for a Sunday, as Christian Dominionists celebrate their Prosperity Gospel Christianity in a complete inversion of Jesus' words.

Well said. The most accurate descriptive term that I can think of for "Christians", like the Prosperity 😈 Gospel worshipping greedballs, is Demonic Dominionist Hellspawn.

I have a mental picture of those locked into the 'greed + ambition = IT' world view. It is not pretty. However, it is not particularly ghastly. It is mostly, just sad. Why? Because all this destruction is so unnecessary for absolutely any of the reasons that elite profit over people and planet humans wrap around themselves like a comfortable blindfold.

I'm sure you've heard about the two groups of people sitting at two tables. One group is starving to death and one group is eating well. Both groups have the same amount of food on the table. Neither group can use anything but spoons to reach the food. However the spoons are longer than a person's arm (You cannot cheat by holding the spoon near the spoon cup, instead of at the end of the handle). IOW, you cannot feed yourself with the spoon you have.

One group spoons the food and feeds others in the group. They eat well. They live in harmony. They know that harmony and altruism equals survival in peace and plenty. They always look out for the other person as a utilitarian, practical matter. Every person in the group knows that if they do not feed someone else, the others will notice and not feed the selfish one, who will then starve to death.

The group starving to death is the 'greed + ambition = IT' based human society.

Proverbs predicted all this thousands of years ago:

Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. -- Proverbs 1:20-32

Agelbert NOTE: As long as most people are more concerned with physical safety than spiritual safety, the violent climate upheavals which are undermining human civilization are guaranteed to increase in frequency and duration until our civilization is destroyed.

The 'escape clause', (see below) is NOT about physical safety; it is about spiritual safety. God fearing people have been victims of physical violence and various privations from the beginning, and will continue to suffer many of these harms till the end.

But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil -- Proverbs 1:33
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matt 10:37

Check this out.

Hosea 4:1-3 ...'Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.'

Exactly right. Human "civilization" is reaping, more every day, what it has sown. As the land now testifies, this is a time of mourning.

Quote
I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints:
but let them not turn again to folly.

Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.
Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps. -- Psalm 85:8-13

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them, And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

Proverbs 8 King James Version (KJV)

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matt 10:37
