How to Make a Comic

Edited by Lucas Halbert, KnowItSome, Noraa, Sondra C and 67 others

Comics have a way of making us feel. Whether that be laughter, sadness, intrigue, excitement, or any other emotion, the power of a visual story cannot be denied. Creating your own comic can be a rewarding experience, and easier than you might think. If you’ve got an idea, follow this guide to turn it into a reality.

How to Liven Up Your Posts With Animated Emoticon Graphics

How to Liven Up Your Posts With Animated Emoticon Graphics

How to Liven Up Your Posts With Animated Emoticon Graphics

As you can see from above, using different font sizes and color along with bold and or italics helps emphasize your point.  I have placed this sentence in the courier font face (in bold, blue 14pt size) to display another eye catching technique. And don't forget the <-M (move) for a scrolling right to left bit of fun.
All these tools are in the panel above the post creating panel for your convenience. It's all HTML (hyper text marking language) and a lot of it can be used in Disqus too.

Aboove are various emoticons that are kind of small but can be used:  :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'( .

I prefer something with a bit more "energy"
img]https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-050422133440.gif[/img].

The tuzki bunny I just used is a gif (graphic image format). I have all the tuski bunny gifs in the Smileys Category of the Gallery at my new Sober Thinking Forum. This is the code for it (it works in forums like this and Disqus html too): https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-050422133440.gif
To make it show, just put it between the image code brackets (without the spaces): [ i m g ]  https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-050422133440.gif  [ / im g ]

Below is a collection of my more "interesting"  ;D animated graphics  for your use, fun and enjoyment. They provide encouragement for those that utter the truth and stand for justice and integrity in human affairs. Some of them are also just the thing to get some stuffed, shirt fuddy duddy's goat through jovial mockery. It's always gratifying to watch some pretentious, sanctimonious know-it-all blow a gasket.

HIGH POWERED GRAPHICS:

   Notice that I crossed out the normal bracket close code and placed it after the width and height code! If you don't do that, you will not affect the width and height of your graphic. [ i m g ] width=500 height=300 ] http://media.tumblr.com/c6492e4b47cfdbd50e74d285fde3c53e/tumblr_inline_mm3g4yCaZc1qz4rgp.gif  [ / i m g ]
  width=250 height=150
   width=125 height=75
  width=75 height=40

As you can see, varying the width and height in the code can be helpful when you want the graphic to NOT be too big because it's for a punch line. On the other hand, if you want to blast it out there, GO BIG!

http://media.giphy.com/media/HjPbLbmep2aJO/giphy.gif -  This one isn't sized. They all have some canned size that comes out if you don't size them with width and height.

Hey thanks for that information.

I copied and pasted some of the codes to try them out, so far that has not worked yet but i'll keep trying.

Fink,
It takes a little practice. You can take any post here that has graphics and right click on the "quote" button and "open in new tab" on your browser and the new window will show you the guts of the code.

That way you can see exactly what goes where.

Ok thanks, I just pasted this here ,  [ i m g ]http://www.pic4ever.com/images/19.gif[  / i m g ] if I wanted to try this on DQ is a different code involved ?

Cheers.

Fink,
Okay, that works but you have remove the spaces between the image code. I spaced it out because it will not show when there are no spaces and the animated graphic will show. Do that again and eliminate the spaces and this is what you will get:

The same code works for Disqus on animations. The only problem I have encountered on Disqus is that sometimes the animations show a lot bigger than they do here. When I run into that I size them down.

Remember how the code works:
 First you have an Opening BRACKET -> [ followed immediately by the "image" abbreviation -> img  followed immediately by a closing BRACKET -> ] THEN you have your hotlink. That is followed immediately by an opening bracket [ slash / -> img  followed immediately by a closing BRACKET -> ]

Thanks for that, are the opening and closing bracket the same as putting text in italics like on DQ ?

Let's try another one

Thanks Agelbert, they appear to be working now

Now, where does one find a hopping kangaroo when you really want one ?

Fink,
As to where to dig up a plethora of jumpy things, I'll give you the link where you can find lots of them.

But first, let me explain the Disqus stuff. The OPENING BRACKET in Disqus [ equates to this math symbol <. The CLOSING BRACKET ] equates to this math symbol >

However, I have found that Disqus converts the forum code without me having to change the brackets for the math symbols.

HOWEVER, you still want to learn to use them. WHY? Because you can do bold and italics in Disqus with them to jazz up a comment. That is, if you do this  <b>bold</b>  or this <i>italics</i>
 or even combine the two like this <b><i>bold italics</I></b>, you can add emphasis to a comment.

By the way, make sure that you "nest" the symbols. What that means is that you CLOSE the last one you opened.
Here are two examples to show you how that works:
<b><i>You must close with the italics close FIRST, then the bold symbol close </i></b>
<i><b>You must close with the bold close FIRST, then the italics symbol close </b></i>

If you don't do that the code symbols will show and it looks ugly.

Here is an example of not nesting in forum code. Notice that the code for bold OR italics that is normally invisible shows because I did not nest them.

Here, the bold close was incorrectly put before the italics close.[/i]

Here, the italics close was incorrectly put before the bold close.[/b]

I hope hat is clear as mud.  ;D

Now for the link to find graphics I have saved (with their codes) that you can check out. Just copy and paste them to your animation doodad wordpad document so you can keep your bag of tricks in an easy to find place.

I haven't seen a kangaroo but I'm sure somebody out there has made one!

Thanks again Agelbert, you're a genius.

Re the kangaroo, remember that moderator who said that he found them jumping things highly annoying, thinking we could go back there one day and fill the entire comment board with jumping things, the examples you have posted are quite sufficient and will indeed set them up in a document ready to go.

Cheers Fink

Fink,
Thank you for the complement, my friend. I'm glad to be of service.  ;D

As to Bob Wallace, the stuffed shirt at Cleantechnica, he is a pain the arse but he is on the side of the angels in regard to renewable energy. Rather than pulling his chain straight out, we can twist him in knots by putting some jumpy animation that he will have great difficulties criticizing or justifying deleting.

For example, when Zach the top dog there (and a very good guy), says something positive and hopeful about renewable energy technology (something he does quite often), you can jump in with this:

THAT makes it HARD FOR Bob, who is subordinate to Zach, to delete it.

In the same comment, you thank Zach for working towards for a Viable Biosphere with THIS (a mega sized gif animation of a nature scene!) future for humanity. Old Bob will have to think about how to pull that down without upsetting Zach!   ;)

Here's a nice nature gif that is BiG!

Fink, if you want the code to anything posted, right click on the QUOTE button and OPEN IN NEW TAB. You can read the comment without the graphics (ALL the code will show).

I am online and available for fun and games  ;) ;D normally after 7 p.m. Let me know when you want to visit  "good old Bob" to politely get his goat so we can coordinate the "strategy".
