“He who controls the past, controls the future; and he who controls the present, controls the past.” George Orwell

Right winger sand their corpmedia henchmen continue to rewrite history, to keep a once-free people muddled and confused. This is why memory is the liberal superpower.

Remember that Orwell's "1984" book dealt with controlling the perception of reality through ubiquitous state sponsored mendacious 'black is white'/'up is down' propaganda. That produced such a level of cognitive dissonance in the populace, that they would ignore the tyrannical reality, no matter how destructive it was to their well being. The key to Orwell's point was not whether ot not the truth was being said; the key was total power over human behavior by forcing them to think irrational bullshit the government claimed was "reality".

Orwell honestly believed you could control everybody that way. It's bullshit. What actually happens is that people go nuts, NOT "passive". People that lose it can be extremely destructive and violent. Orwell mistakenly thought that government caused cognitive dissonance would "guarantee" perpetual control of the populace. What that GUARANTEES is a populace that eventually believes absolutely nothing the government says, but pretends otherwise, while they sabotage the system in any way they can, without getting caught.

I wrote a term paper about that in college. I used Aldous Huxely's, "Brave New World" as an example of a society that happily swallowed all the bullshit the state fed them. I said, in so many words  ;), that humans, no matter how much they are propagandized, are limited by the five biological senses from consistently ignoring reality. The Koch Crooks have a 'continously crapping on the environment for profit' reputation that matches Trump's MO to a T. No amount of media Orwell speak is going to get the public to ignore that.

While it is true that sanitized historical lies do not, on the surface, equate to a fed flag that the populace would recognize as total bullshit, there is a limit that the Huxley and Orwell described controlled Dystopia concepts (embraced with typical atheistic fervor by the 😈 Fascists from the 👹 CIA to the 🦍 Rand Corporation), erroneously did not account for.

IOW, the past, present and future perception of historical truth can be manipulated to a point, but serial mendacity will be recognized and rejected eventually by most of the citizens being subjected to said BULLSHIT.

Soviet Russia is an excellent example of how a very controlled society eventually gave the finger to the liars running the system.

Reality always eats away at a false perception of reality. It takes a while and a lot of pain (i.e. the signals the 5 biological senses provide us telling us that DOWN IS DOWN, not up, and the government claiming the opposite is a lying illegitimate POS that is NO LONGER TO BE TRUSTED), but when a tyrannical govenment Orwells the people for too long, critical mass rejection of the source of the lies is ALWAYS reached.

The USA, with its printing of money on behalf EXCLUSIVELY of the 1%, gamed BLS definition of poverty, artificially low inflation and cost of living stats, historical happy talk about crooks and liars like George Herbert Walker Bush (etc., et al) and contrived food fights about the Koch Brothers and the Trump Wrecking Crew, is just about there.

What Orwell and Huxley never got is that people eventually start laughing about the daily BULLSHIT they are being fed. The Corporations running this mess called the USA have never understood that either. These wily crooks think it's ALL about perception management. It is NOT! All this crap about "rebranding" and so on is CRAP. Yeah, it works for a while. BUT, when the entire machinery of a government is twisted into this 'LIE A MINUTE' freak show, no amount of money for more and more and more "perception management" is going to work.

Surly, I think we are already there. The only thing holding this freak show together is elections rigged above and beyond any level of previous skullduggery. Americans DO NOT trust the American Government any more. They want a Government that does no lie for the 1%. The DEFAULT opinion of the average person now is that the government stats are lies. THAT is new within the last 2 or three years. Even in Civil War days, people were not that cynical and disgusted. THAT, to me, is prima facie evidence that this government has lost its legitimacy.

Incredibly thoughtful comment, AG. I read it with great interest.

The USA government may have well and truly lost its legitimacy, but it surely has not lost its power, which is maintained by a near-complete monopoly on the projection of force. Along with, as you note, the Treasury printing presses.

It's good to see your views count going up steadily. Well done, brother.

By the way, I hope you enjoy my latest rant on the "No longer room for Procrastination" topic thread.  After writing it I thought about the type of "reception" it would receive at the Doomstead Diner by all those "rational" people over there who favor the Orkin man "solution".

Thinking it over, I beathed a sigh of relief that I ducked that particular hail of sniper bullets.

All that heat and the kitchen BULLSHIT about the "grit" one "should have" to never cease from engaging in endless circular debates with people who are irrationaly hardened to reject any challenge to their materialistic "might equals right" view of "the real world", was always an exercise in futility, as well as being an unnecessary source of stress.

It is nice to be an Admin.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. The power of the USA is far more illusory than most people realize. My pension will disappear in a heartbeat and my wife and I will be homeless within a year after this freak show gets internationally exposed. Trumpy will cut every Federal Pension there is to keep his 1% Pigs happy. AND, neither the Supreme (fascist) Court nor the corporate elite lackey Congress will move a finger to safeguard pensions for the poor and middle class as our economy circles the drain. Then many MILLIONS of Americans will REALLY GET ANGRY.

That will just accelerate the demise of this country. Russia had (and still has!) a formidable military and almost total police state power over the populace. How did that work out?

Do you think the fascist alphabet agency goons are going to keep us all in line? Where's the manpower to stop a rebellious force in a country where just one million angry people could take down the government as long as they were willling to lose 300,000 shot to death the same day? Do you know how many angry people, with nothing more to lose, there will be when Trump starts cancelling pensions for "national security (i.e. preserve US Dollar hegemony for the 1%)"?

I was trained in war and military tactics. It's a numbers game, period. The logistics advantage is on the mob's side, not on those in D.C. on the government side. Bullets, food, positioning, transportation are ALL more problematic for those defending a piece of real estate than those attempting to "peacefully" take it over. That is the achilles heel ALL governments have, that our media works overtime to make sure the US populace do NOT learn about.

When large masses of people start getting killed, it is OVER for our government, Surly. And THAT is precisely what you know Trump will resort to if he is being accosted by a million people or so.

Yeah, he orders the use of LETHAL FORCE to "defend" the White House and, like the COWARD that he is, goes off in the Marine One helicopter. After several thousand deaths of a bunch of these "commie crazies" (see: the media shreaking, wailing and so on) by a battalion of well armed Marines with attack helicopters that eventually ran out of ammunition in the Great Merikan "DUCK SHOOT", the White House gets occupied by angry citizens who have just experienced the murder in cold blood of one third of their friends by solidiers they previously "thanked for their service".

Do you know what it will do to the morale our military to have to kill fellow Americans (no matter how demonized by Trump and the media), in the tens of thousands, in one day? Have you thought through that scenario? I have. It is a DEAD END for the US Government, period. If you think everything is gonna be just fine when all those dead bodies are gathered up and the injured or not "crazies" are all sent to prison, I've got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

I repeat, the power of this government is illusory. Do you think the cops don't have their finger in the 'cratering incomes driving people to despair and anger' wind blowing across this country now?

Fasten your seat belt. Critical mass is here. It's gonna be like ex-lax for TPTB.

SNIPPET:

With 2019's deficit total now pushing toward 900 billion, we should perhaps expect deficits to top two trillion when the next recession hits. And probably for several years.

The piper will then need to be paid when interest rates increase and substantial cuts must be made to social security, medicare, and to military budgets in order to service the debt and avoid default.

This reckoning can be put off, however, so long as the dollar remains the world's reserve currency, and the central bank can continue to monetize the debt. As long as the dollar reigns supreme, the central bank can keep this up without causing high levels of price inflation. But when the day comes that the dollar can no longer count on being stockpiled worldwide, things will look very different.

Donald Trump’s world is on fire

BD Holly | 1:30 pm EDT August 26, 2019
Palmer Report » Analysis

“Trump drastically shrank the southern Utah monument in 2017, as well as the nearby Bears Ears national monument, in what represented the largest elimination of public lands protections in US history. Some 800,000 acres were removed from the Grand Staircase.”

Teddy Roosevelt is rolling over in his grave. If you read this and thought, like any reasonable human, “that’s terrible,” then you’ll be especially disgusted when I tell you that apart from cattle grazing, fossil fuel drilling will be opened up in the Grand Staircase to whoever can secure a contract. All this in the midst of the increasingly rapid meltdown of the earth’s vital life-supporting systems.

As you’ve heard, the Amazon is quite literally on fire; indeed, so are enormous swathes of the Arctic Circle and Siberia. All this is releasing inordinate amounts of carbon and methane (which is about four times worse a greenhouse gas than carbon) into the atmosphere. We’re suffocating life on earth. With that, we all were blessed with the magnanimity of our dear leader to offer so selflessly help to those in need. Via Twitter:

“Just spoke with President @JairBolsonaro of Brazil. Our future Trade prospects are very exciting and our relationship is strong, perhaps stronger than ever before. I told him if the United States can help with the Amazon Rainforest fires, we stand ready to assist!”

Here’s the contrast: Firstly, on Trump’s list isn’t the preservation of earth, but a term that has become increasingly disgusting to me – “economic efficiency.” Secondly, Trump is “offering help” to Brazil to stop something that he himself is enabling back home. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, given that hypocrisy is one of Trump’s few strong suits, however, it should feel appropriately dystopian and filthy. Trump, inveterate gaslighter and conman, is well-attuned to the fact that inundating the media with messages and plans that go every which direction sufficiently overwhelm most people into not seeing the bigger picture of his nefarious agenda. Trump is in it for the money, and letting fossil fuel companies destroy the earth and what few protected areas we have is, to him, inconsequential collateral damage. Tweeting contrary messages helps him dodge accountability.

We can’t let anything enable the destruction of the earth like this, let alone one man, let alone the president. Trump wants a red planet, and I’m not talking about Mars – I mean he’s part of the evil that wants to level earth to rubble just for short-term financial gains.

 He must be voted out.
