Agelbert NOTE: Surly, since you are a Bona fide Journalist and News Hound, I guess you know about the fascist attempt to destroy TruthDig.

Editor 🦅 Robert Scheer was fired without cause, and in breach of contract, by Zuade Kaufman. Even ✨ Chris Hedges got fired, also on trumped up (pun intended) charges.   The remaining writers are all on strike. Good for them.

I'm a little tired right now but tomorrow I'll post some stories from Popular Resistance covering that. It seems that Popular Resistance has taken over the TruthDig mantle, at least for now. Even Mr. Fish, the TruthDig political cartoonist 👍, is posting on the Popular Resistance web site now.

Letter From Truthdig's Editor-In-Chief, Robert Scheer
By Robert Scheer. To Zuade Kaufman: I want to register my strongest possible disagreement with your unilateral decisions to bar me from the Truthdig site, close the site, and discharge Truthdig's employees. Each of your actions represents a violation of Truthdig's Operating Agreement, which requires that you and I agree on actions such as those you have taken on your own. To make myself clear, you have not consulted me, and I disagree. Although you claim that your actions have been required by Truthdig's shaky financial situation, it appears that you have not taken into account funds that have been raised from third parties to...

"Thank you for all you've done at Truthdig," an attached form letter read. "We really appreciate your contributions. We did great work together. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

American Suez?: The Costs Of Bombing Iran
By Maj. Danny Sjursen. Decaying empires behave badly.  Late-stage imperial states easily fall prey to perilous insecurity and irrationality, and tend to lash out like wounded, cornered animals.  Perhaps it must be so: naught but a collective macro-reflection of the human condition.  Unfortunately, many thousands - often millions - of innocents tend to die at the denouement of empire.  "Dirty wars" usually ensue during the imperial endgame.  That time is near, it seems, for the American hegemon.  There’s hardly “dirtier,” or nastier, proof of “bad behavior” than recent reports that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo...

SNIPPET:

My talk ‘What if we looked down’ discussed the severity of the virus, the precautionary principle, and what society can learn from this pandemic. Beyond minimising the harm of the virus, there is a lot of work to be done in restructuring our economies afterwards. In my latest article for The London Economic, I argued that we ought to be using this unprecedented consensus on the need for mass public spending to argue for green subsidies. Crucially, we ought not to bailout the aviation industry, which has done so much to spread this disease and which is totally incompatible with maintaining a healthy climate and ecology.

On a similar theme, I was also interviewed by the Indian newspaper Mid-Day about what lessons we can learn from the pandemic. I argued in favour of wealth redistribution and that we ought to preserve part of this wave of mass working from home. Working from home, while certainly not possible for everyone, is often far more time efficient, ecologically sound and family friendly.

This program focuses on how the capitalist economic system plays crucial roles in the #MeToo examples of Weinstein and Cosby and also in the failed response to the Corona virus crisis. The organization of capitalist enterprises - power and wealth concentrated at the top in a tiny minority - invites and enables sexual harassment and abuse by people positioned like Weinstein and Cosby. A profit-driven medical-industrial complex did not invest in preparing for the virus and a profit-subservient gov't failed to mobilize private and public resources to test for, contain, and overcome the disease.
