Vermont reaches 80% vaccination goal

Eighty percent of eligible Vermonters have received a Covid-19 vaccine, clearing the way for the state to reopen, Gov. Phil Scott declared Monday.

The announcement effectively brings an end to the pandemic-related restrictions imposed in March 2020.

Starting immediately, there are no limits on the number of people who can congregate in restaurants, performance spaces or other indoor venues. Previously, gatherings were capped at 300 unvaccinated people, plus any number of vaccinated individuals.

The state’s “universal guidance” remains in effect , which encourages unvaccinated Vermonters to continue wearing their masks and practicing social distancing. Masking had previously been required for those who have not been inoculated. People should continue to practice good hygiene and think carefully before traveling, according to the state’s guidance, though quarantining and testing are not required.

Agelbert NOTE: My wife and I are vaccinated but we will continue to wear masks for our protection. I recommend you do the same.

An Oct. 5, 1919, headline in the Rutland Daily Herald announces the statewide quarantine ordered by the Vermont Board of Health.

Then Again: When does a pandemic end? Lessons 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️🏥 from a century ago

by Mark Bushnell

SNIPPETS:

Today, when the Spanish influenza pandemic is recalled, many people assume it wrapped up neatly in the fall of 1918. In reality, although the worst was over, the pandemic hadn’t ended. ... ...

The most effective defense seems to have been social distancing.

Rapid Surge in New Cases
« Reply #279 on: August 10, 2021, 12:12:36 pm »
Agelbert NOTE: As you can read for yourself in the news item below (yes, it's just Vermont, but the new deadly trend is even worse in high population states), COVID-19 is doing its deadly thing again :(. I guess I was premature in claiming it would be winding down now :-[. So, I will post wednesday weekly updates until new evidence emerges that COVID-19 is no longer a threat.

3 Vermont counties show ‘high’ Covid-19 transmission as cases reach 3-month record

SNIPPETS:

Chittenden, Franklin and Orleans counties now show “high” levels of Covid transmission, the strongest category in a rubric from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As of Sunday, the CDC also reports “substantial” transmission in Bennington, Essex and Washington counties. The federal health agency recommends universal indoor masking in counties with “high” or “substantial” spread.

Data from the Vermont Department of Health shows cases rising statewide. The state reported 89 new cases on Monday, as well as 47 cases on Sunday and 112 cases on Saturday, the highest one-day count since April 29.

The state reported two new deaths from Covid-19 on Monday.

Twenty people 😵 are currently hospitalized with the virus, the highest one-day count since April 26. Eight of those people are in intensive care 🥺. ... ...

As of Friday, Gov. Phil Scott’s administration was not planning new statewide preventive measures.

But the rapid surge in new cases, largely driven by the more contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, has led several institutions to tighten rules around masking and vaccination.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger recommended Friday that all people in the city wear masks in indoor public spaces. The mayor also said he intends to finalize a vaccine mandate for city employees in the coming days.

SNIPPET:

Houston has been hit by a surge in the Delta variant, with some 3,422 people testing positive on Wednesday, from just 398 new cases a month ago. Harris County, which includes Houston, last week raised its alert level to its highest and asked unvaccinated residents to stay home.

After six churchgoers die from COVID-19, pastor runs vaccination drive

SNIPPETS:

As Florida continues to set records for new coronavirus cases and hospitalization, a local church is urging residents to get vaccinated. The Impact Church in Jacksonville is now hosting a vaccination clinic in light of the death of six parishioners—all of whom were unvaccinated. All six church-goes died of COVID-19 within two weeks and were healthy, CNN reported.

"All were healthy, all had no preexisting conditions. Four of them were under the age of 30, and they were all unvaccinated," Pastor 🕊️ Joseph Cooper told News4Jax. ... ...

"We believe that the doctors are created by the Lord, and he gave them the information to create this vaccine," Cooper 🕊️ said. "That's his answer to this horrible pandemic.”
